Re: Best layout for a camp of 2 people

If that mini-van is you main wheels in real life, where you drive friends and family, kids and colleagues around ... I’d nix the idea of sleeping in it. It will forever be full of Playa. Roll up the windows in Gerlach, unload it at the campsite, lock it for the duration. Do what the rest of the fol...

Re: Best layout for a camp of 2 people

For reference, the map(s) Chowski mentioned are here: https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=78496 Make sure to pack along extra tarps, and maybe a small sheet of aluminet/camo netting to allow yourself to adapt to however your camp actually ends up. Even with the best planning, you migh...

Re: Best layout for a camp of 2 people

One thing I've done is to put the monkey hut adjacent to the side wide door or tucked over the back door of a van. Then try to bridge some fabric to "seal" the monkey hut to the van door. Keep the van door closed as much as possible. Then cover all the van windows with mylar space blankets cut to s...

Re: Best layout for a camp of 2 people

cmrabet, That is an excellent idea. (It's exactly what I do.) However, I have a carport instead of a monkey hut. I bring an ice chest for beer and fruit cups but no perishables. Check out the threads about food. Put up your tent and position some lightweight cloth over the vents. Every window and v...

Re: Best layout for a camp of 2 people

More important than using the van as a bedroom is using the van as a windblock. There is a published map which details the predominant wind direction and sunrise. My advice is, know this generally in advance of arrival. When you get there, park the vehicle to block the wind, then set the tent up in...

Best layout for a camp of 2 people

Hi everyone! What would be the best organization/layout for a camp for two people traveling in a Toyota Sienna 2006 (mini-van)? We want to avoid cooking as much as possible so the plan is to take canned/dried food. I'm thinking that we could use the mini-van as bedroom, use a tent to put the food, w...

Re: Driving from VA

When you say tent as a kitchen are you planning to cook in there? I we can avoid it, we don't want to cook. I'm planning to take canned/dried food, but I was thinking that it would be better to have it in a separate place from where we sleep, along with all the other supplies (water, drinks, etc..)...

Re: Driving from VA

I've driven to the burn twice and flown 3 times from Philadelphia. Both have their advantages, but I would recommend the drive in your situation. I have done this the opposite of what has been previously mentioned, I make a beeline when I drive to the burn (basically doing it in 4 days in an RV fro...

Re: Driving from VA

I have driven it from Charlottesville 7 times. I drive a Suburban that gets 17 MPG, and tow a small pop-up camper. Running solo I do it in 3 days, with the GF, 4. We hit a nice hotel/motel for nights, see a lot of sights going out, but do a beeline home. I still think it is a nice drive, the West s...

Re: Driving from VA

Thank you guys for your inputs. I should have elaborated more my post: 1) The VW Jetta is not the only car we have in case of breakdown, but it's the most economic one (it consumes very little gas), and we use it when we drive long distances to save fuel. It also has only 50k miles, it's in pretty g...

Driving from VA

My wife and I are considering driving our VW Jetta 2013 all the way from central VA to the playa next year. This will be our first burn. We were thinking that it would be fun the two of us crossing states and staying in motels for 3-4 days away from the kids, on our way to burning man. We would be c...
