In an effort to get into some kind of physical shape I rode my bike to work today for the first time in over a year. Better to be sore now than when I want to bike all the way across the playa to see the next thing being set on fire.

Took the pop-up trailer out for a spin this weekend and made sure it's ready for another Playa adventure. Did a few minor repairs, and changed out some kitchen supplies.

Dusted off my baby "travel" sewing machine & made sure it still works. And went through my official Playa-Wear Repair Kit to make sure I'd be ready for any clothing repairs, adjustments, or modifications that come up for the folks in camp. This little bundle is the official start to this year's Pack...

So glad to be Playa-bound after a 2 year hiatus! Getting tickets this late has definitely put me behind on preparations though! Hit the ground running this weekend by checking the "fun lighting" inventory, making sure all the pieces of my purple leopard bike are accounted for, and turning our old ca...

Re: One Item for BM a Day
today was my big inventory check/planning day for camp kitchen
I stocked up on some 5 Hour Energy for personal use
made my (hopefully!) last costume-related purchase
Tomorrow I'm banishing myself to the basement & shackling myself to the sewing machine to finish costume projects.

Just got back from my own little prepare-for-the-playa camping trip where the weather was 98+ each day! Over the 3-day trip we ested out our new cooler system with dry ice, tested (and approved!) a new meat marinade, I finished a few little costume projects, and started making the Official Packing L...

Re: One Item for BM a Day
I've been trying so hard to do "one item for BM a day" since January (at least). So now it's July 25 & I'm starting to hyperventilate when I count the days to departure!!! I think instead of getting everything done in a timely fashion I just decided that I had more time for more projects. ...

First Day Home
In all the different years, with different themes, with different camps, and different companions... we all have those little things that are the same each time we come home. So once all the basics are done, what is it you do on your first day on-Playa each year (besides visiting The Man)? For me; o...

Layers! Since the weather can be unpredictable, I've found it very handy to plan for layering. For each day (and or night) I have a basic outfit that I love that's perfect for good weather, a few underlayers of tights, leggins, bodysuits in case it's cold, warmer accessories of warm headgear, gloves...

After 7 weeks of waiting, today I I had my first taste test of home made cheddar cheese. And I must say, it's pretty damned good! :P A few tweaks to the process and I'll be making 2 batches this week that should be aged to perfection come playa-time. Making cheese is one of those things that is tota...

Lots of hula hoop practice for me this week. It's hell on the rosebushes, but I'm getting better bit by bit. I've seen the Life Gear battery powered "glow sticks" in Target, Home Depot, and other similar places year-round. Those are the ones with the whistle on one end, white LED flashlight on the other, and the colored part in the middle that does steady-on or flash.

Savannah, that coworker was one of those that I'm sorry I lost track of. He was great at what he did professionally & despite being "older & wiser" he still knew when to say "the hell with it!" and have a good time. The company itself is long gone, but I do still run across the other burners from th...

Re: The first time you ever heard about Burning Man?
It was mid 2003 for me. I was working at a .com startup in SF & my coworkers started chatting about "Burning Man" and who was going with what camp about July. I looked it up & read just about every post on ePlaya. Sadly at the time I was just too broke to buy a ticket on such short notice. Monday th...

Re: Glowies, Blinkies, UVies & Other Illuminations
Not sure about 6v, but I have found lots of light portable 12v rechargeable power sources. You can find them down to 1 or 2 lbs; some even have on-off switches on the power pack. I saw lots on ebay & picked up one for my purposes at a local electrical supplier. Most of these require a little DIY kno...
