BM Hacks

Figjam's Playa Practical thread has not been active for a while, so I thought I'd start a new thread on BM hacks. I'll kick it off with a few of my own: Hexayurt Hacks: Use a sharpened putty knife to cut the foam boards - much faster, cleaner, and safer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuFWRTEULD0) ...

Re: Bigger is Better? Building a camp to fail.

OP is just speculating - pulling stuff out of thin air, not knowing anything about the camp. I know people in the camp, visited their camp multiple times, and rode on the plane multiple times, and OP's speculation is completely wrong. More than wrong. As in half of what he/she wrote is not just wron...

Re: AC for Skoolie

Here is the post-Burn report for those of you who have the same question. The 5000 BTU unit was not nearly enough in the 106 degree weather. I am going to upgrade to 15,000 or 20,000 BTU unit next year. FYI, my bus is yellow, with 1 inch insulation. But I didn't put up silver bubble insulation on th...

AC for Skoolie

I just bought a short skoolie for the burn. Quick question: anyone have experience on how many BTUs you need to keep a ~21 ft bus cool?

This sounds like a Reddit thought experiment where you have already decided something foolish you are seeking approval for.
What's the foolish part? He needs to transfer a ticket and he's asking a question. Seems like a very straightforward and legitimate question.

Re: New and improved Evaporation Cooler designs (swamp cooler)

Figjam cooler is still the best if you have 100 sqft of hexayurt space or less to cool. Beyond that (or in a tent without the insulation) it's not sufficient. But I'm not sure bigger evap cooler is the way to go - the amount of water and power you need is a lot, so at that point you might as well sw...

Space available for couple of burners

Hi All

We have a small camp, with a bar that serves soju and bingsu. We have room for couple of people, ideally folks who can come in couple of days early to help with setup and stay through breakdown. We do have tickets for you and have electricity, kitchen and water. Email me if interested. Thanks.

I think I found one, is this what you mean? https://i.imgur.com/Nt5gRhQ.jpg They're not easy to find but I did find combination frame locks on ebay, like this one https://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTAwMVgxMDAx/z/Id4AAOSwYS5cwDW0/$_10.JPG Those European frame locks that have been presented here several time...

Re: Playa Practical

Your own composting toilet. 5 gal bucket, line it with a garbage bag. Get a toilet seat made for 5 gal bucket. Get a brick of coconut coir.

After you do #2, put a handful of moistened coir and cover it up. No smell even in BRC heat, no trip to the porta-potty. Really.

Composting Toilets

So, I tried DIY composting toilet this year, and it worked very well. You take a 5 gal bucket, line it with heavy duty garbage bag, put a toilet seat on it you get from Amazon, and cover your poop completely with composting material (I used coconut fiber based material from Amazon - you add few quar...
