Re: Tickets import fees

Found one post and it looks like they had to pay the tax, see attached.

There was one other thread on one of the groups where someone posted some ideas on how to contest the tax and not have to pay it.

Re: Tickets import fees

Check the groups on fb, I saw several threads on this but can’t remember which groups since this doesn’t apply to me.

The gist was that this year the BORG did something that made some countries levy a tax on the tickets and the notices that folks have been receiving on this are legitimate

Re: 2019 Repair Camps Listing

Thanks so much for doing this!

Last year, I printed a bunch of these out, had one each in my pack and my tent, and then handed the others out to people I saw with bike troubles along the way. People were real grateful.

Super helpful to have.

Re: Can You See This Happening???

I’m a newbie, last year was my first year. Driving around looking for spots to squeeze in on K and L after getting through gate on Monday was stressful. In the spot where we did set up, our neighbors were initially a little salty because they too had had to navigate some kind of land grab and alterc...

Re: HAIR concerns on the playa? ;)

SugarK, the witch hazel got all the playa dust out great. It was drying so that's why I do the coconut oil right after. I'm Indian and have thick curly hair, fwiw. For logistical reasons, I also had to go back to work right after the burn. As in teardown, exodus, and then my husband dropped me off a...

Re: HAIR concerns on the playa? ;)

I did braids during the day and wigs at night with a wig cap - added bonus of being warm at night!

I used witch hazel to comb the dust out of my hair every couple of days and then added coconut oil before I slept, I didn’t have any breakage or hair loss, but your ymmv, of course.

Re: Comfortably camping

I was reflecting on comfort vs preparation for my virgin experience (rambling incoming): I went for the first time last year and had a very “comfortable” set up in open camping. We didn’t have the budget for anything expensive, so RVs were out, and I felt like they were too insular. We ended up buil...

Re: What’s the best way to hang/suspend things inside a yurt?

Your prep sounds top notch. I’m impressed by it. What other events have you guys done that led up to you doing burning man? Thanks, that feels good to hear from someone who’s familiar. Honestly, we hadn’t done anything remotely like this before - just some car and tent camping at state and national...

Re: What’s the best way to hang/suspend things inside a yurt?

Yes, the bed is on a wooden platform and can fit storage bins underneath, good eye! We had built the platform a few years ago to be able to turn our SUV into a camper-type setup when needed, so it was easy to repurpose that here. The platform is in three pieces, they’re light and require 5 minutes t...

Re: What’s the best way to hang/suspend things inside a yurt?

Well that is like the yo mtv cribs of yurts right there. Impressive setup for your first year! Did you build your swamp cooler? What would you do different next time? Ha, thanks! I did build the figjam swamp cooler, and tbh I just followed the instruction and didn’t read all the discussion which I ...

Re: HexaYurts

What she said. How did you attach the fabric to the roof? I used 13 six inch segments of pvc pipe with a length of mule tape strung and knotted through each of them. I taped the pipe + mule tape segments with bifil to the joints of the roof just before we set up. Didn’t do it before transport becau...

Re: What’s the best way to hang/suspend things inside a yurt?

Is that wallpaper? Did you have a second tent for supplies etc? Yep, wallpaper. I looked at bulk wallpaper companies online, specifically their discontinued/clearance patter s and picked the pattern based on the clearance price but was pretty happy with how it turned out. The wallpaper is taped ont...

Re: What’s the best way to hang/suspend things inside a yurt?

That is one seriously decked out yurt. Was it wired for electrical / lighting? We had a solar panel and wired one extension cord into the yurt for the lights. And we had a swamp cooler outside though didn’t use it much as the yurt stayed pretty comfortable and cool. No other electronics for the yur...

Re: HexaYurts

Tried cheapy wallpaper and fabric draping for the inside of the yurt this year and it came out pretty well! Took an extra hour during set up, but felt very homey.

We used 13 six inch segments of pvc pipe with a length of mule tape strung and knotted through each of them them. We taped the pipe + mule tape segments with bifil to the joints of the roof just before we set up - 6 just above the walls and and 6 more about halfway to the roof. One more near the ver...
