Re: Plug & Play Camping
Let me just say that I hate all videos about Burning Man because absolutely zero of them represent my experience. Except the Soul in the Machine demo vid and maybe some old Mutaytor shit. And the fireworks. It's hard to fuck up fireworks. I think every time Burning Man is captured on film and sold ...

I always wondered what that sea of RV's was, sitting out on the Playa a week before the event. Now I know.

Re: 2012 : Take back Burning Man
I meant my original post to be somewhat sarcastic. I'm kind of wondering why we don't do several festivals -- Burning Man 1, Burning Man 2, etc. every year. Space them out by about a month so they don't impact the American Association of Rocketry (check out that nice rocket through a tire out in fro...

That's right friends. You didn't get a ticket this year because of the damn Lottery. Even though you gamed the system by getting your in-laws to register for you. Damnit to hell!! Re: BRC Fails to even search for duplicate names??
Ticket Brokering is big business. I know of one friend who does this professionally. Here are some links for some really useful information on the amount of information that exists for people who don't really care about the event, but see Burning Man as an event that has scarcity, like the Super Bow...

I think we all want to believe in the ideology of not buying a scalped ticket, but I know of one ticket buying service in Dallas who employs people to buy tickets with their own credit cards and will pay a finders fee and premium for doing so. The ticket service does this for every single game/event...

Re: Tickets AVAILABLE
Unfortunately, there will be scalpers holding tickets. It's not going to change. I'm not happy about it, but I spend a shitload on bringing out a huge camp every year and I can't really afford to dick around with finding/sourcing tickets when I spend, on average, another 2-3K on getting my stuff out...

I'll get mine on StubHub or Ebay as they're already showing up there for more/less than face value. I didn't get selected by the lottery, but I just bought mine here. If I pay a premium of $100 or $200 to assure my place on the playa, so be it. Using BM's STEP program is like owning and registering ...

Yeah, we didn't have enough on the card at the time of getting remotely charged.. and I think we lost out.
There are other options this year, and probably better that I didn't spend the $3-4K that I normally do on
building out the art car/camp etc.
BM has jumped the shark. Long live BM.

Two hundred square miles of playa don't get shut down, only the area leading into where BM locates the event. There are myriad number of ways to get on/off the playa without going through Gerlach. It's a bit more complicated, but the roads are gravel and not too bad. Go north of the event site by ab...

Better count in travel costs from Texas, renting (with your friends.. an RV), costumes, and alcohol. So, that's $400 in travel costs, $250 for your part in an RV, Stuff you buy at Target/Walmart in Reno $150, camp dues, stuff breaking down that you can't control.. etc. IF this was Coachella, for exa...

Think maybe it's time to stop going after 13 years, and support one of the local alternative festivals. End of an era. I can't imagine any theme camps actually investing in infrastructure if they *may* not go due to bad luck. I know that I would be reluctant to build anything substantial with the un...

Falk, that already happened. We had the misfortune (or were somehow damned in hell on the way there) of locating next to the "art" car covered in plush, cutesy toys blaring a repeating tracklist that included the venerable B-52's Rock Lobster. I had a fucking great time this past year. I didn't give a rats ass what the theme was, and I had a great time doing abso-fucking-nothing the whole week. How do you feel about connections to the outside world? Cell phones? Electricity? Services? "Does it bring us together, or draw us apart?" is the question I think you should ask in considering whether to bring a technology out here on the Playa. My personal belief is that cell-phones and wi-fi only ...
