Write your camp address on her arm in Sharpie. Set her loose.

Re: The Mayonnaise Jar and the Two Beers
I'm reminded of a movie from a long time ago. I forget the name, but I believe it starred Virginia Madsen (or someone who looked like her). Down-and-out guy brings home beautiful girl to sparse warehouse apartment. He opens the fridge, as he says, "Can I offer you a beer...or some mayonnaise?" as th...

Re: The Anti-Weekender
I was one of those. I arrived for the CORE build on Wednesday before the event, and worked for three days to get it assembled. Rangered and partied five days till the CORE burn, but then I was done; went home Friday. Nine/ten days was plenty, and I don't really like the energy of the city on Saturda...

Re: Photo taking on the playa
There's an expression in the gun world, that's probably appropriate here: "spray and pray". If you're not sure you'll get what you're shooting at, take a bunch of pictures, maybe one of them will come out okay. Still dislike that they took away the viewfinders on modern p&s's - but if you're used to...

Re: What are you reading?
(The book about the murder is "The Man Burns Tonight".)
I'm reading "The Case for Mars" by Robert Zubrin. 'Cause Mars is, you know, pretty much exactly like Burning Man, except for the costumes and the thumpa-thumpa music.

Re: car battery for power source?
Batteries work well for LED lights. For cooking, why not use propane - much hotter and easier to use energy-wise.

"I looked at the area and saw a flood of police lights."
That's not a raid - it's a LEO rave. They really trip on the blinky red and blue lights.

Re: Underwear
When you need big girl panties, Lane Bryant (Cacique) is a great choice. Don't buy anything there that isn't on sale, and when they ask "what size does your wife wear", tell them "hell if I know, these are for me!"

Re: Rebar Diameter
If all you're holding down is a tent, you don't need rebar. Use large tentstakes - I use military 12" v-stakes for a 12x12 large canvas tent, but 8" stakes would probably hold down a small tent just fine. Not the crappy aluminum stakes that came with the tent; not those ubiquitous sharp-edged silver...

I really don't see it as a "haves vs. have-nots" thing, or that people who rent a crappy RV for the week are somehow rolling in dough. A beaten-up RV that can make it to the burn and back costs at least $2500 - plus gas - plus you've got to either sell it when you're done, or keep it somewhere. Ren...

The best thing about motorhomes, is it provides needed separation of the Haves (who can afford a them) from us Have-Nots (who can't). Like gated communities in the rest of the world, it allows them to live in their own perfect protected world, while the rest of us have to do what we can to survive. ...

We can't (for various reasons) and don't want to (for other reasons) restrict children from the event. We are required by law enforcement as well as by general obligation to society to search for, and care for other people's lost children. As a community, we accept the responsibility. As individuals...

395 (assuming the landslide is cleared and your trailer can do 45 up the hills at Mammoth, Bridgeport, and Walker) about twelve hours, plus however long you stop. A little shorter if you don't go through Reno (direct from Bishop or Bridgeport to Fernley). A little longer if you do I5, but it seems l...
