Re: Interesting read--open sale may be cancelled.

The idea of now canceling the open sale and rewarding tickets to camps that "make the event" or "deserve tickets" is a bad idea. If this happens Burning Man, in my mind, will become just another festival that has to rely on having guaranteed entertainment for people to enjoy. It already has to rely...

Re: Interesting read--open sale may be cancelled.

I'm not into raves much at this time in my life, but what's wrong with ravers anyway? Too young for you? You know not all of us can be old farts. Look at where all the trash was that people had to pick up after the camps left: http://burningblog.s3.amazonaws.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/MOOP-MAP-...

Re: Interesting read--open sale may be cancelled.

Actually this partial solution was immediatley clear to me from the onset of this cluster fuck. Although the technique of distributing the remaining tickets to theme camps is a heavy-handed solution, it may well be the only solution available at this point to make sure the event doesn't become a bu...

Re: Eliminate ravers to fix ticket problem

The problem with tickets and scalpers can only be fixed by having more tickets available than people that want to attend. Since the BLM controls attendance, the only solution is to reduce the number of people that WANT to attend. If you want to limit attendance, doing it randomly is probably closes...

Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread

Did The Borg not see this train wreck coming based on last year's sellout? I think they DID see this coming, but the problem was that the "solution" actually made things worse. Let's say they had kept the old system. What would have happened? I think they would have definitely sold out in the first...

Re: How will the lottery affect our community contributions?

When I say key contributors, I am not just talking about free booze. In fact maybe I shouldn't have used a bar as an example because I really don't think booze scarcity will ever be a big issue at Burning Man. What I'm more worried about is that we won't see the art cars, the excellent artwork, etc....

How will the lottery affect our community contributions?

I spent quite a bit of time in the forums last night, One repeating theme was that many very large camps (50+) people had less than 20% awarding of tickets. That includes the numerous key contributors that have placement on the Esplanade. My fear isn't for my own ticket. I think without a doubt I ca...

Re: Lets start talking about how to fix this

For those of you crying "Increase the size of the city!" Have you all forgotten 2007 already? They DID increase the size of the city - by 60% in fact! It was HUGE, and then in 2008 they shrunk it back because everyone complained that it was too big. I for one liked the bigger city (even though that ...

Re: Ticket Guilt?

When I think of chance and luck, I think of nature. By chance you are born with looks (good to bad), brains (a lot to little), what country you will be born into (in war, poor, rich, etc.), what parents you'll have (drunk no good thugs to loving, inspiring individuals), etc. Given all that we suffer...

Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread

One other thing: given that everyone is worried about even being able to attend, how good do you all think the art is going to be? Answer: not as good as years past for sure. This entire ticket fiasco has thrown everything out of kilter and you can't expect camps to be thinking about how to bring gr...

Re: Official "Not Awarded Tix" Thread

Oh, man, where to start! First, let me make this clear: this will be my 9th year at Burning Man (if I can attend), and I did not receive the opportunity to purchase either ticket I applied for. That alone would have been bad, but also of the 18 tickets of people in my camp, only three tickets were c...

Burning Man circle size this year?

In 2007 Burning Man was small and the deep playa lost a lot of it's beauty. In 2008 it got super big and it was cool because to get to the deep playa you had to travel actually. Then in 2009 it got small again. And in 2010 it stayed small, so small that it couldn't even hold the people who attended ...

There are onsite inspections. Oh, really? I thought you just get the permit, show it to them, and everything was fine. There are inspections too then? That might make the whole permit thing more sensible. Where did you hear about that? Yep, the health inspector is out there doing their job. -Badger...

These are all good points, guys. I think the way I was thinking of this has broadened a little. Going back and reading my first post I was filled with indignation about the whole permit thing. Now I've thought about it in different ways and how it is like or not other situations, I still think the p...

Rick Hale, have you tried the larger camps like Root Society or Opulent Temple? I know what you are offering is an amazing deal. I have no doubt about that, but there seems to be a lot of broke camps out there, probably because it really is expensive to put up a large camp and everyone seems to want...

Those rules are not BMOG rules, those are rules imposed by the local authorities. Look, BM does not happen on Mars. It happens in Nevada. Nevada has laws that still apply to BM. You might not like it but there it is. A caterer that works birthday parties and corporate lunches must be inspected, too...

Gifting food/drink - NV health permit required? Seriously?!

I just read in the survival guide that to gift other people food or drink, one needs a Nevada health permit in order for such an act of selflessness to be legal? What a load of crap. This is a private event held on public property. In that regard it is no different than if I held a big party for the...
