Re: How to deal with the 300watt BS without extreme measures
1. Earplugs! 2.Sleep in a minvan, these things have amazing sound insulation! RVs have NO insulation, same goes for tents :) You can even cover up the minivan for more light and sound protection. BE CREATIVE! 3.Sleep on a comfy mattress or pad. If you are comfortable you are more likely to fall asl...

I'm distracted by cheep ass screws. More later when I can think. I agree Amiculus...the cheaper the screw, the more distracting. I've heard you get what you pay for... Most of the wrecks are at less than 60 feet so overall this should be a pretty straightforward process. And I was so hoping to spen...

It may end up being a question of number of divers versus number of boats. Of course, some of the reefs out by the fence line are just too far to kick to. Those will be 2 tank dives with a surface break. Most of the wrecks are at less than 60 feet so overall this should be a pretty straightforward ...

A dive camp sounds like fun - count me in!! It would also be cool if you offered a "dive bar", and perhaps a scuba experience for the uninitiated. My husband and I have tried this with several friends/family in backyard pools and they've all loved it. Not sure of the logistics or legality though. -...

BRC Dive Shop
I am considering a new camp for Burning Man 2006....would it get any support? Like the hardware store or other practical spot, we would have tank and equipment rentals, boats to take you to the best playa dive spots and, of course, girls in bikinis hanging around the pier. I'd have to figure out ho...

...you may be refering to the "Survival Guide"....so yes Virginia, their is a 300w limit within Black Rock City (with exceptions noted above). Bingo! You got it. Glad to realize I wasn't going crazy. Presumably, those who have responded to this thread who have leaned more towards the "we'll blast y...

Re: Sound Bullies
Ok I might be under-caffeinated this morning but...I have EVERY single piece of paper and even the stickers from clear back to 2002 spread out over here and I looked. I don't see anything in there that covers the 300 watt rule. If it's in the "What Where When" I'm missing it. I'm sorry, I don't thi...

Re: Sound Bullies
...Oh, and can anyone find this 300 watt rule for me? I can't seem to see that it's been published by BMORG anywhere.... It's in the booklet they hand out at the event. The book contains a calender of events, camp listings, etc. along with community rules. When I asked the Rangers they said it was ...

....stay home OK?! I think your last line best sums up your posting's entire philosophy. No point in arguing with you since the rave camps we were dealing with had the exact same attitude. The bottom line is figuring out a way for DJ's to have/play their music and for others to be able to function ...

Re: My Two Cents on da Noise
I never have any problems sleeping and we were in CENTER camp. Friday and Saturday, there was monster music comping out of that place all night. Instead of wasting energy bitching about it, I concentrate on sleeping and ya know what? It works. How did so many babies assemble in one thread? Come on,...

djmalloc, In a nutshell, it doesn't matter how much time, money and effort you put into your sound camp. If it's not in the "loud" zone and it's over 300 watts, you have to turn it down.......... EB Amen! I started this thread a few days after getting back from BRC. It really had me bugged. I have ...

burning man is a loud place. that's not to say that your complaints aren't valid... If your camp shut their music off at 1am, then its neither of the camps I started the thread discussing. As you can see from the many replies, many burners and a number of theme camps had the same problem we did.......

Stuart-it's hard to know how to respond to your post. Sounds like the org did not put your camp where loud sound works were to go but you decided to be a loud sound work anyway? I can see how on the Esplanade a camp might direct most of their musical energy towards the uninhabited middle? While it a...

DVD-you are 100% right!!! I re-read what I posted and think it sounds like a threat....frankly I don't know what I mean. I talked several campmates OUT of vandalizing our neighbors generators. It actually created a little friction within our camp...that sucks, huh? I guess what I would do next year ...

Ear Plugs - great idea. They work perfectly for "reasonable" sound levels, people talking outside a tent, etc. They do nothing when you have a couple thousand watts of speaker power across a road pointed straight at your camp. We were there from Sunday on. The first few days there was lots of noise,...

Great comments all! Glad we weren't the only ones experiencing the pain. To DVD , something I should have mentioned was that BEFORE WHINING TO BRR we did go to the primary offending camp and discuss the situation with their "leader" and "DJ". We explained that since they were not in the designated ...

300 watts bullshit
Our camp and several neighboring camps were heavily disrupted this year by a couple of nearby "rave" camps that had setup heavy duty outdoor speaker systems and then ran them 24/7 for the last few days of the burn. We had music too but refused to crank it up enough to compete and thus were drowned ...
