I always stop at Sierra Sid's in Sparks to gas up, throw some quarters away in the wheel of fortune machine and get a hot meal. I don't wash my truck (except the windows) so other burners will wave on the way home. And in the long line out of BRC I listen to Liz Phair's first album and RHCP's Blood,...

I'm glad I read this discussion. It's perfect for the way I'm feeling right now. I started going to Burning Man in '98 and have missed the last three years due to health and/or money issues. I MUST go next year!! I've gotten that post-playa melancholy every year upon leaving and entering the so-call...

Just curious....
This is just from my own curiosity. I've missed the last two burns due to health and money issues. Certainly there have been arrests or citations for marijuana by BLM (feds) to Nevada, California, Oregon, Colorado etc. citizens who are card-holding medical marijuana users legal in their own states. ...

I like the solo experience.....
My first year at Burning Man (1998) I brought my then girlfriend and her 3 year old son. We only came for the last four days of the event. All went reasonably well. The next year we had broken up just before the event, and I came alone for the whole week, and except for two missed years, '06 & this ...

Put your links and url's for 2008 pics and media here....
I missed this year, sadly, and am very eager to see everyone's pictures and media - need me some vicarious Playa time. Just thought I'd post a request for links to everyone's pics in a new subject folder just for the 2008 event. Many thanks in advance, and hope to see you all up there in '09.

I feel your pain....(billy clinton)
I know how you feel, too. I missed this year due to financial reasons, but I've been to Burning man for 10 of the last 12 years, and it did the same thing to me as well. It was hard to go back to my mundane life and my miserable job, dealing with people who were never happy. Burning Man changed my l...

The boards are way more negative than the event, IMHO
I come to the e-playa after every Burning Man to help with my decompression. This was my tenth year. It would have been my eleventh, but I missed last year due to health and money issues. Someone above stated that a lot of the people who come to the e-playa come to vent and kvetch, and I'll admit, i...

the logo and other swag
A few years ago I hand-designed a rubber stamp with a simple logo of the man on it, and took it with me wherever I went and offered to stamp anyone who wanted it, anywhere they wanted it. ..on paper, breasts, butts, legs, foreheads. I'm typically kind of a shy person, and this simple little stamp I ...

TV commercials
It seems like at least several times a week I"ll be watching TV and some commercial for cars or SUVs that was filmed on the playa (or at least a playa that looks like Black Rock) and I'll sigh and take a little mental trip back to my desert home.

Playa Buddha's pics....
Here's my pics, finally. I know the setup looks a little weird, but I can't seem to make the frames work, so it's just a line of thumbnails that will come up in a separate window or tab if you use Netscape or Mozilla. http://www.angelfire.com/ca5/ersatarot/ersatarotburningmansite.html Burn on...

Playa Buddha's pics are up ---- finally
Well, here are my BM03 pics. It took me awhile, as I've been working a lot and had more than a little trouble with Microsoft Front Page making the frames work - so I decided to just put it up as is and work on the frames later.

BTW, did anyone see the "Reno 911" episode last night on Comedy Central with the cops all dressed up in playa clothes (or lack of clothes) to make a sting? Pretty lame, they were sitting in a diner that looks suspiciously like Sierra Sid's - way too clean for the playa, but the costumes suggest some...
This is my sixth year at Burning Man. The first year I made the mistake of getting a car wash in Gerlach. When I went through the fruit checkpoint on the 395 at Topaz, the guy asked me where I was coming from. I told him Black Rock City - and he told me that was impossible, my truck was too clean. A...

I've said it in another post, and I'll say it here in a different way. On the playa, it seems most people is having too good of a time to worry about the little things that bug them about the event - oglers, spectators, cops, the commerce of coffee and ice at a no-commerce event, getting too big, un...

The good far outweighs the negative....
I'm so glad that the confrontation and the seemingly angry replies (I may be missing someone's irony - it's hard to determine in print) are pretty much left to the e-playa, and not the playa itself. I'm not saying that there are no confrontations or arguments at the festival - certainly there are a ...

OK, I'll acknowledge that ice isn't an absolute necessity. It makes life a little more pleasant - radical self-reliance or not - I don't necessarily want to eat Spam, backpacker rations and canned stew for a week. I also don't want to have to pay $20 to exit and drive to Gerlach on Thursday to re-st...

Center camp is my favorite place
Center camp is my favorite place at Burning Man, because it's the one place where everyone feels free to enter, and it does "cater" to everyone. In other threads people are debating about theme camps that seem unapproachable. The fact is, some theme camps do seem unapproachable, or maybe they just d...

You weren't kidding with the high quality! I'll admit, when I check out someone's BM website I skip a lot of pics....but with yours, I downloaded well over a hundred of the 126 (don't worry, for personal use only). The clarity and quality of subject matter is amazing. I hope you're a photographer fo...

I noticed some negativity, but.....
This is my sixth year at Burning Man, and I did notice a little more negativity this year than perhaps the last couple of years. I did not let it ruin my experience a bit, however. The only time it really got to me was for a couple of hours after the burn itself, when it seemed especially intense, a...
