Re: Virgin Burner Couple Looking for an RV to share

Just buy your own. “RV” can be a huge 2 million dollar bus or a tiny little “tear drop” trailer that a big motorcycle can tow. Get an old trailer, clean it up, paint the inside and doll it up. It’s cheaper than renting, and way better. You can even sell it off when you get home if you don’t wanna ke...

Re: Mountain bikers... full suspension or hardtail?

It’s not like it’s one or the other.
There’s zero reason you can’t put the same seat and bars and gears on a mountain bike as on a cruiser.

The Mongoose Beast or Dolomite are about the ideal playa bikes.
Cheap, fat (4”) tires, and you can slap whatever comfy seat and handlebars on you want.

Re: Mountain bikers... full suspension or hardtail?

I’ve brought mountain bikes several times, I swapped the seat and bars for cruiser parts.
And I put a gas motor on one... but that was 2000 when you could do that.

Re: Water Storage/ Shower Situation

Hell no, no need to take whore baths! Have a real shower. Not much beats how great a real shower feels in a hot dirty desert. You’ve got a trailer. You can carry water barrels. All you have to do is bring empty barrels to pour your grey water into, and a big funnel. That’s what I’ve always done. It ...

The basic problem with modern BRC

It all boils down to making it too easy. It used to be hard. Zero services. Horrible potties. You were in your own if you wanted to go. Then people had great ideas... let’s have busses to make it easy for anyone to go. Let’s even have air service. Let’s have camps that provide accommodations, and le...

Re: Is there ever going to be a year that ticketing isn't a hot mess?

Well... there’s 2000... tickets could be bought in record stores, or at the gate.
If you mean upcoming years, well, that’s unfortunate. With eleventy zillion people after 30 or 40 thousand main sale tickets at the same instant, it’s gonna be a hot mess.

Re: 10 Yr Environmental Impact Statement (Includes Relating to Culture)

Doesn’t matter. Does anyone think stock cars will ever race in “stock car” racing again? Junior Johnson invented “drafting” in his ‘59 Chevy because it’s 348 couldn’t keep up with the new 389 Pontiacs in about ‘60-‘61. Now, all cars are virtually identical except for the advertising, let’s see, does...

Re: How much grey water to plan for?

It all boils down the the same basic issue: making it easy for people to fly or bus in without providing for themselves. It isn’t supposed to be that kind of vacation. A lot of people won’t have the chance to do Burning Man if it isn’t made easy enough for them... those people that won’t make the ef...

Re: How much grey water to plan for?

This is the biggest no-brainer ever. How much fresh water are they/you bringing? That’s how much grey water capacity to plan for. And that’s a great plan, it’s what I’ve always done. Evap ponds, as you’ve found, are horrible. There’s no reason you can’t have a shower, it all depends on how much wate...

A limo covered in stuffed animals is not gonna get licensed. Yes several have been done before but the rules change and the standards evolve. You can have all that on the playa. I do. Because I bring my own. You’re sort of right about one thing, Burning Man isn’t necessarily about suffering... but it is about covering your own ass. It isn’t supposed to be too easy. If it were, it would ruin it like you’re trying to do. Plug & play is plug...

Oh yeah, absolutely never agree to be someone’s ride home unless they’re camping with you.

It’s totally ridiculous. Usually you don’t know who your neighbors are gonna be. Things are so random, and it’s only a week, that sharing battery power with strangers just i...

I wouldn't, $1400,00 dollars is a lot of money, you can always get tickets from the aftermarket at a lower price, and use the extra for bacon, I just look on eBay you can get tickets, cheaper then $1400.00 This is very, very poor advice. Never buy a Burning Man ticket from somewhere second-hand lik...

Uh... that conversation all took place six years ago... By the way, the biggest problem with clear panels (aka “windows” lol) on a Mutant Vehicle isn’t heat, it’s visibility. Cap, that is all well and good. We looked into getting a beater RV, but the cost of renting a place to park it was higher than we expected. Can't park an RV on the street. You can park it in a driveway as long as you have a hard structure to hide it, which we cannot do due to being in a historic di...
