It should still manually lock and unlock without any battery power.

One of the last REAL Burning Man theme camps. When Gigsville hangs it up, that’s about the end.

Re: Our Playa Homes

The whole “the playa is my home” thing happens to most burners, it wears off after a few years.
It’s an empty non-life-supporting desert, with an ever-deteriorating commercial event that happens every year.

It would be more effective in that application. Just put the offending camper in the box. They rarely make as much noise as a cheap generator.

You’ve been to Burning Man four times and you think you can just bring a golf cart?

You need to go read the DMV rules!!

Re: Dust trail prevention

Since the shape and form of mutant vehicles is so varied and unlimited, there isn’t much in the way of standardized dust reduction except going slower. If yours dropped any of that stuff AntiM had to pick up, just slowing down and raising less dust would have been better. I think you just used that ...

I strongly agree!! Playa dust + moisture = fast corrosion.
I know, I’ve driven home to the Pacific Northwest with dusty gear and vehicles.
Playa dust is like instant rust powder, just add water.

Re: Generator rental and delivery

There’s no pre-registry for gas. They do have a pre-registry that serves to help estimate how much demand there will be. Cooperating with that is polite but there’s no list you have to be on when you show up. You just get in line. I can’t remember if they were set up for credit cards, cash certainly...

Re: Generator rental and delivery

I’ve only been there in my mutant vehicle but there was never any form of approval, you just show up and get in line. I always also filled up a whole bunch of gas cans. I think if you can get there, you can buy gas. The line is usually very long and very slow, but hey it’s black rock city. Bring sha...

Re: Generator rental and delivery

Snickerdog you mentioned a Shiftpod. Is that what you’re actually using? If so and you haven’t bought one yet, ripoff alert! Ripoff alert! Those things are a fund raiser for Shift camp. Way way overpriced. Those are well suited to using a swamp cooler... except what the swamp cooler proponents like ...

Re: Generator rental and delivery

Just a thought, and I know it is blasphemy to some , but probably the easiest way to reduce generator load is to ban air conditioners. Have a build night for RV owners to build swamp coolers and run them off wall warts. No one asked how to reduce power needs. When a camp says “we want to set ...

Hey Doc, here’s everything you could ever wanna know about setting up a full-camp power distribution from a big generator. Re: Anybody ever build a hush box?

You’re way off, yes. Bbadger’s right, high heat paint has nothing to do with protecting a surface or material from heat. It’s simply paint that withstands high heat. A dog igloo as a generator cover bears a remarkable resemblance to a pizza oven. Even if the foam didn’t melt or ignite, the generator...

Re: Generator rental and delivery

I have the opposite point of view about that.
I think having a cool, clean place to rest makes me more ready to go out there and explore. I think I being stuck out there in the heat and dirt and dust wears you down.
Note: if you’re under 40, this advice may not apply.

Re: Generator rental and delivery

You can rent a Honda EU3000 but you have to bring it yourself. There are Yamaha generators that are just as good and jay as quiet, plus a few other Honda’s that will do the job. I use a pair of Honda EU2000s because that costs about the same, but makes more power and each weighs only 50 pounds, inst...

I also agree with the advice NOT to even volunteer at all her first time out.
Go, see what it’s all about, then decide things like that.
And if she’s dead set on volunteering, there are on-playa volunteer opportunities.
