Re: PAGE TWO

I’m OK as long as I don’t ever read the “People Seeking Camps” page. When I do, what little hope for the event’s future I have dissolves. Look all you people... this is - well it WAS - a do it yourself event in the middle of a harsh desert. That in itself is a large part of what made it what it is. ...

Having to be on the east coast Tuesday means leaving the playa by mid-day Saturday, if it’s super important you be there on time.

Re: Designed with no seat (cannot be a modified vehicle with the seat removed)

In all the years I roamed the playa I don’t recall having to jump out of the way of speeding scooters. I used to ride a gas motorized bike, the only havoc I caused was one moderate-speed chase from a DMV golf cart... but that was 20 years ago. Statute of limitations... didn’t happen... The rule was ...

Re: Need Deep Cycle/Inverter Recommendations

About dust: I shopped Target and such and found a plastic bin with a top that fit my inverter with some space around it. I screwed some pieces of wood through the bottom to provide a mounting surface and drilled holes to run the cables through. I silicone-sealed the crap out of all the holes where t...

Re: Need Deep Cycle/Inverter Recommendations

Since you’re planing on future expansion and also run a generator, I say skip the low powered junk you’ll waste your money on when you throw it away later. Get at least a 1000 watt inverter, and whatever you do, get a pure sine wave inverter. Don’t buy a super cheap shit box. Many things including a...

Re: The basic problem with modern BRC

Between ‘99 and ‘01 I built several MVs based on riding mowers. I regeared them to go lots faster, but I didn’t have the mower decks under them. Back then there was a guy who brought a regular gas powered push mower, and he’d fire it up and walk around “mowing”, throwing a ton of dust. It was awesom...

They say the screws fastening the fuel valve can rattle loose.
Take ‘em out, apply Loctite and put ‘em back in.
If that’s too complicated, step away from the electromechanical device.

Re: Water infrastructure for camp

I’ll second Token’s advice, just use an RV pump. They’re everything you need, automatic, reliable, relatively inexpensive and work great. They have a pressure switch built in, and will turn themselves on and off as needed. There’s thousands of them doing just what you want out there, in all the RVs....

Re: Virgin Burner Couple Looking for an RV to share

Just buy your own. “RV” can be a huge 2 million dollar bus or a tiny little “tear drop” trailer that a big motorcycle can tow. Get an old trailer, clean it up, paint the inside and doll it up. It’s cheaper than renting, and way better. You can even sell it off when you get home if you don’t wanna ke...

Re: Mountain bikers... full suspension or hardtail?

It’s not like it’s one or the other.
There’s zero reason you can’t put the same seat and bars and gears on a mountain bike as on a cruiser.

The Mongoose Beast or Dolomite are about the ideal playa bikes.
Cheap, fat (4”) tires, and you can slap whatever comfy seat and handlebars on you want.

I’ve brought mountain bikes several times, I swapped the seat and bars for cruiser parts.
And I put a gas motor on one... but that was 2000 when you could do that.

Re: Water Storage/ Shower Situation

Hell no, no need to take whore baths! Have a real shower. Not much beats how great a real shower feels in a hot dirty desert. You’ve got a trailer. You can carry water barrels. All you have to do is bring empty barrels to pour your grey water into, and a big funnel. That’s what I’ve always done. It ...

The basic problem with modern BRC

It all boils down to making it too easy. It used to be hard. Zero services. Horrible potties. You were in your own if you wanted to go. Then people had great ideas... let’s have busses to make it easy for anyone to go. Let’s even have air service. Let’s have camps that provide accommodations, and le...

Well... there’s 2000... tickets could be bought in record stores, or at the gate.
If you mean upcoming years, well, that’s unfortunate. With eleventy zillion people after 30 or 40 thousand main sale tickets at the same instant, it’s gonna be a hot mess.

Doesn’t matter. Does anyone think stock cars will ever race in “stock car” racing again? Junior Johnson invented “drafting” in his ‘59 Chevy because it’s 348 couldn’t keep up with the new 389 Pontiacs in about ‘60-‘61. Now, all cars are virtually identical except for the advertising, let’s see, does...

It all boils down the the same basic issue: making it easy for people to fly or bus in without providing for themselves. It isn’t supposed to be that kind of vacation. A lot of people won’t have the chance to do Burning Man if it isn’t made easy enough for them... those people that won’t make the ef...

This is the biggest no-brainer ever. How much fresh water are they/you bringing? That’s how much grey water capacity to plan for. And that’s a great plan, it’s what I’ve always done. Evap ponds, as you’ve found, are horrible. There’s no reason you can’t have a shower, it all depends on how much wate...

You can have all that on the playa. I do. Because I bring my own. You’re sort of right about one thing, Burning Man isn’t necessarily about suffering... but it is about covering your own ass. It isn’t supposed to be too easy. If it were, it would ruin it like you’re trying to do. Plug & play is plug...
