If you don’t live in SF, why look in SF - the highest-rent place around - for work and storage space?

Solar lol. Wanna explain for everyone precisely how big the panels will be, and how heavy the battery bank will be for even 5000 watts, adequate to hold that load all night? Then let’s mention cost, that’ll shock a few people half to death. Solar, for high-current temporary portable use. That’s a gr...

You can have all that on the playa. I do. Because I bring my own. You’re sort of right about one thing, Burning Man isn’t necessarily about suffering... but it is about covering your own ass. It isn’t supposed to be too easy. If it were, it would ruin it like you’re trying to do. Plug & play is plug...

First of all, you haven’t figured out what Burning Man is if you’re asking where and how to have services provided. Straight up, that’s bullshit and is what’s ruining the very culture you’re so interested in. Black Rock City is Radical Self Reliance. Take care of your own logistics. It isn’t easy. I...

I’ve got something way better, a “Dynamic” shaft drive bike. The whole mechanism is fully enclosed. But it’s too expensive to be a burner bike. Hell I don’t ride it at all... I just tend to collect bikes I think are cool. But seriously, if you can find a deal on one, it’s got a 7-speed internal hub,...

Oh yeah, absolutely never agree to be someone’s ride home unless they’re camping with you.
And really, I wouldn’t be too anxious to fill my rig with strangers for the trip to begin with. The only good to come of that is the story.

It’s totally ridiculous. Usually you don’t know who your neighbors are gonna be. To work effectively at low voltage you’d need very large-gauge cables, which will cost you over $2/foot to run two conductors. Things are so random, and it’s only a week, that sharing battery power with strangers just i...

Re: Should I go for presale?

I wouldn't, $1400,00 dollars is a lot of money, you can always get tickets from the aftermarket at a lower price, and use the extra for bacon, I just look on eBay you can get tickets, cheaper then $1400.00 This is very, very poor advice. Never buy a Burning Man ticket from somewhere second-hand lik...

Re: There's nothing wrong with basing cleanup deposits on exodus cleanup results

It’s simple. If you patronize a plug&play, you’re not a burner you’re a cancer on the event and you’re a bigger part of the problem than the moop they left. If it’s too hard to do burning man from too far away... then it’s too hard to do burning man from too far away. Next time I’m in Italy I’ll be ...

Uh... that conversation all took place six years ago... By the way, the biggest problem with clear panels (aka “windows” lol) on a Mutant Vehicle isn’t heat, it’s visibility. They’ll be dusty and dirty and hard to see through, especially at night. If you wanna see anything they need to open. But it’...

Cap, that is all well and good. We looked into getting a beater RV, but the cost of renting a place to park it was higher than we expected. Can't park an RV on the street. You can park it in a driveway as long as you have a hard structure to hide it, which we cannot do due to being in a historic di...

Man... I took two different campers to BM over the last couple decades, I paid $1500 for each of ‘em. They were ‘80s models. But they had AC, showers, and all the other comforts. I’ve been trying to tell people for years that you can have all the cool, clean comfort in BRC you want, without being ri...

The so-called ten principles are fine.
What needs tweaking is people heeding a few of ‘em, mostly radical self reliance.
No commerce needs a little more attention too.

Being in a big camp isn’t the only way to get DGS.
In fact I’ve gotten DGS tickets many times and it was never because of the camp I was in.
It did always have to do with being the actual person who was actually bringing and doing something.

The ticket price is one thing I don’t have issue with, I can see why it costs what it does, but I sure as hell don’t want to pay even more just so someone else can go cheaper. The ticket is usually one of the least expenses. If that’s someone’s make-or-break, attending this expensive party is a ques...

There is gas on the playa. You can run power 24/7, I’ve done it lots of times. Onan is not second in quietness. Those things are loud. Your best bet is a portable Honda or even Champion inverter generator. The $3/hr or more fee for generator running time offsets a fair amount of the cost of buying o...

This idea has come up several times. People have submitted applications to the DMV for service vehicles, moop-collecting vehicles etc. and been denied driving licenses, because vehicles are licensed according to what they are, and not the owner’s intended use. You can certainly do it and get a DMV p...

Well you’re upset that your plug and play didn’t clean up. We’re both upset. That’s one of the problems with showing up at Burning Man and not being self sufficient: relying on others to supply you and clean up after you can and often does fail. You really didn’t pack out all your own stuff. You pai...

Sure, let’s just keep commercializing it more. Make it easier and easier. Let’s encourage the guy who mostly sees this as a business opportunity. Re: Towing with a UHaul moving truck or van?

As for your original question, if it’s as light as you say it is a U-Haul van will pull the thing just fine. They tow trailers heavier than that all the time. As for the immediate thread drift about whether you should even do that at all... I agree with the others, you’ll spend a fortune on a U-Haul...
