Re: Our camp is looking for a village to join

Over 30 people, with burn experience, and you can’t provide your own logistics? You may have a good moop track record but don’t you think you’re a little lacking in the self-reliance and responsibility thing? That little tent doesn’t “need” placement in a village. And you are asking for a LOT of pow...

Re: Want to share an RV?

Several people in a rented RV is almost guaranteed to be a water use problem. Trust me, no matter how much you tell them ahead of time, someone is going to use up all the water in a day because they just won’t understand the finite and small water supply. Someone will take a long shower - and I don’...

Re: Fixing/replacing Bottom bracket on huffy Cranbrook bike?

You’re making it sound a whole lot more complicated than it is. You probably just need a set of bearings. A Huffy “Crankbroke” is about as simple as bikes get. All you do is unscrew the left pedal and unscrew the big nut on the crank, it’s not rocket surgery. You need “special tools” like a crescent...

Re: Any camp to host this LED installation?

That’s cool. Really cool. But yeah... Burning Man is pretty much a “do-ocracy”. Showing up with the “fun” part but not having done anything for the “work” part (logistics... power, transportation, etc.) except asking someone else to provide for you isn’t really how it’s supposed to work. Well... it ...

Re: Deep Playa Potty Map?

You pretty much need to learn to scan and look for and recognize them.
Maps sound like a good idea until you get out there late at night and the map lacks a “you are here” icon... rendering it fairly useless.
Hell there didn’t used to be any deep playa portos at all.

That’s called fucking up Burning Man.
What the event needs to remain the awesome event it was is NO services. It shouldn’t be easy.
The more of that commerxh stuff that gets added the more watered down it all gets.

Really, if the difference between the $400 tickets and $1200 tickets will ruin you financially, coming to Burning Man from overseas is a terrible idea anyway.

Re: RV Cleaning Place between BRC and Seattle?

I assume you’ll be passing through Cedarville on your way off the playa.
Right on the main intersection is a gas station that has a pressure-wand car wash thing. I usually go there and do an initial clean off for the ride back to Seattle.
And yeah, Klamath Falls has facilities.

Do something different, build it on the airport road or in deep playa.

Or even better, just have an off year where you just go and have fun without the theme camp.
Exactly. You and your setup being there will make anyplace be a great place.

Compressed air. If you don’t have an air compressor, get one... a blow gun works wonders on dusty gear.

Re: Pursuing a CA CDL

The thing is, I know you haven’t got the budget to maintain a heavy bus in proper driving condition. I don’t have a bus because of what it takes to keep a heavy rig in proper shape. The main reason it’s wise to only buy busses directly from municipalities or school districts is because almost no pri...

Re: Pursuing a CA CDL

OK, want practical advice? When traveling, make those busses look as clean and nice as you can, with zero burner or hippy commune clues on them. Try to get RV registration. That requires things like cooking and bathroom facilities installed, but exempts you from a whole lot of rules and shit. Keep t...

Re: Pursuing a CA CDL

NONE of my dealings with the DOT were while engaging in interstate commerce. The only “interstate commerce” I ever do is hauling show horses to SoCal and back. Do you think you don’t have to stop at all open scales and be subject to random full inspection in an over-26000 vehicle just because you’re...

Re: Pursuing a CA CDL

No... articulated busses are Class B rigs. You can drive them with a Class B CDL. Class A and Class B aren’t about the size of the vehicle, it’s whetwhr there is a trailer over 10,000 pounds involved. Articulated busses are not considered trailers, they are permanently attached and the rear usually ...

Not doing anything that subjects you to FMCSA rules would consist of not driving the thing on a public highway.
It’s an over-26,000 vehicle that requires a CDL. Hopefully you don’t get taught the rules the extremely expensive way, from the wrong DOT officer.

You’re opening up a huge can of worms stepping into the CDL world. ALL your shit has to be in order, shit you didn’t...

Well it’s a little bit “high tech” but I like to bring a GoPro.
You can take still shots, you can do video, it’s smaller than almost everything else so it’s easiest to carry, and comes in a waterproof case - which also means dust proof. Really hard to beat.

Nope... only that snail would get licensed. The other two are clearly recognizable cars and trucks. The only reason Harrod’s VW got licensed was because it was considered a Burning Man historical piece, grandfathered in. That mantis thing is an ‘80s Chevy C60 flatbed, you can see it clear as day.
