We choose to have Rangers in our camp.

Finger on the pulse, and all that.

Re: The basic problem with modern BRC

I say we do away with big sound systems.

Then the DJs won't come.

Then the sparkle ponies won't come.

Then the rich dudes won't come.

Win/win.

Re: 10 Yr Environmental Impact Statement (Includes Relating to Culture)

I've seen it posited elsewhere that the BLM is reacting to a novel, Use of Force, in which BRC is the target of a terrorist attack. I've scanned the first bit, and the author has clearly attended the event, he uses actual Theme Camp names and gets lots of 'old timer' info correct. I wonder if he was...

Right.

So, with your 15-20 people you ARE a Theme Camp.

Y'all don't need a village.

This is Black Rock City we're talking about. Ain't no-one gonna guarantee you shit. Make your plan, burn your plan; nothing ever goes down as it 'should' out there. (Well, maybe sometimes things do go according to plan, but that would be cause for celebration 8) ). OMG, it WORKED!!!!! It's part of t...

Hey, pappachuck, you're shouting into the abyss, here. The folks on this board are just regular dusty people that make awesome stuffs on the playa. If you want to address the policy makers, you need to go to the top of the food chain, the folks in the BM offices in San Francisco. I don't think I've ...

Re: Cultural Course Correcting post by Marian Goodell

The first PnP that I was aware of was Entheon Village in 2006, placed on both sides of the entire block A from (I think) 3:30-4. They hosted the MAPS conference that year, so it was 500 clueless people who knew nothing about BRC, but had paid hefty money to attend the conference. Accommodations were...

The members of the Org enjoy dancing with the FancyFolk?

There is some monetary kickback? (in addition to the social capital?)

MVs and BigArt projects benefit from donations?

*Me, I like the back streets and the small art.*

Re: HAIR concerns on the playa? ;)

I would suggest that you plan to keep it braided, maybe a couple of french braids that you re-do mid week, or just bun it. Maybe get a fun wig? You definitely don't want to wear it down; my first year I came home with a brillo pad on my head and my hairdresser had to take six inches off. I now do br...

It means that the fucking village name is '404 Village , not found'.

It's a fucking great village; so much 'round the clock interaction!

Great bars, Dye with Dignity, and much, much more.

We spent a goodly chunk of fucking time in this block last year.

Actually, Dicky-in-the-Box found that the water warmed up quite nicely (or not) in the Box. And was very chilly in the night times.

Re: Comfortably camping

Most people find they eat a great deal less out there. Also, when one is in the middle of the most amazing, mind-blowing place on the planet, who wants to spend time cooking elaborate meals? See, when we took an RV or trailer, we *avoided* pooping in the loo; pumpouts are notoriously difficult to fl...

The portos are serviced twice a day; they're not that bad.

There is no avoiding everything being dusty 24/7, unless you never step out your RV.

Ooooh, check out Burning Sky. They're a camp that facilitates on-playa skydiving, they also do a couple of really cool air 'shows'.

(one has to be an experienced skydiver, with ~200 jumps under one's belt to jump on-playa, but I'm guessing you meet that criteria)

No. The clueless are not to be blamed. Designing your camp to rope in the newbies and take their money without acculturation is snake-oil, at best.

Re: Cultural Course Correcting post by Marian Goodell

We are a returning camp in good standing, so we receive DGS, which covers our build/strike crew. In a camp of ~38, we will have between 8-15 virgin burners this year. These folks come to us (mostly) through personal, off-playa encounters. We talk to them, acculturate them, and (if they GET IT) they ...
