Re: Costume & Crafting Help
A few days ago I finished another project. I made my first scoodie for a friend and got a picture of her wearing it yesterday when I gave it to her. It's a continuation of the red panda outfits. She wanted a scoodie while I went with headband ears so I could wear my tail and ears during the day with...

Re: Tarps for hexayurt floors
Rug over cheap tarp for sure. You'll want to tape the tarp to the walls of the yurt inside and outside (in case of rain - it does rain on the playa sometimes). With a cheap tarp you can cut it off the yurt at the end of the week and don't need to worry about not cutting the tarp. I get a new cheap t...

Re: Butterflies in stomach
The preburn excitement/jitters just hit me really hard today and this is my 9th year. I did also buy a van today, to take to the burn and that was pretty exciting. Still exciting, actually. It was my big in progress thing towards the burn and now I can focus more on sewing more things.

Or use an existing swimsuit to make a pattern, if you can't find a color you like/want. Just make sure the stretch in the fabric is matched.

Lol, when I went to check what the update was, I was thinking of, "starting with a swimsuit would be even easier. . . " Not surprised Ratty beat me to it.

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
I think a good swim suit patter would make it not to bad. The biggest concern I see is preventing stretch from misshaping the bite in the middle, and a non-stretch bias trim might be enough for that. otherwise, I would go full suit swimsuit pattern, make that, remove bite mark, add bias trim and the...

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
It was a learning experience. First bustle skirt from instructions online. I also taught myself how to ruffle fabric on my serger (OMG so much easier than basting and pulling threads that always break on me) and I taught myself how to do a rolled hem on the serger for finishing. Very excited to be r...

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Didn't anyone notice my explanation/instructions included a "tail version one"? Two of tail version 2 will be on the playa, one on me and one on a friend of mine. Tail version one goes to another friend of mine, not sure if he will be on playa this year or not yet.

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Fishy, I know! Very honored over here. I started off by deciding on how long I wanted the tail and how wide around I wanted it to be at the widest point and the narrowest point. Then I pulled out my pattern paper and marked these measures down and proceeded to draw what basically looks like a giant ...

Re: Past Camp Map / Arriving
I probably wouldn't bother driving in closer than I street on a Wednesday as it can get packed and that space is likely already taken. Theme camp area is shaded on the map - don't bother looking for camp ground in the shaded areas, but also remember it does tell you were the placed theme camps are w...

For sewing I use the super long pins too. This time I was gluing fur to a headband so pins wouldn't work and I needed to conform to the curve of the headband too.

I have some new stuff I've made to share and get people inspired, but I need to take pictures of it first. For the moment. I want to share these Clover Wonder clips. I got a set of 10 to try and I have to say if your project involves bulky material or gluing stuff they are awesome. I supposed binder...

I've already been sewing this year. First piece for a friend is what I am calling the galaxy kilt. I made up new pocket construction for this one, and added blue rhinestone rivets for more detail. https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-d1Kjf3oFP08/UVXGuf9d1iI/AAAAAAAAOsI/hazZUU1nDyU/w844-h476-no/IMG_201...

Radical Self-reliance
From burningman.com Radical Self-reliance Burning Man encourages the individual to discover, exercise and rely on his or her inner resources. I've been noticing a lot of people making statements that it is radical self reliance to ask other people for help. I don't think there is anything wrong with...

Re: The Individual Sale has started!
No errors and in at 12pm and still no tickets when people that entered the queue later then me have theirs. Clearly first come, first served is a lie when it comes to this ticket queue.

Re: The Individual Sale has started!
It doesn't seem like this is really first come first server. People that entered later than me have gotten tickets and I am still waiting. The complete lack of any identification to my place in the queue is hugely frustrating. All I have is a never ending waiting bar that tells me nothing. Hard to s...

Cleaning EL/LED Clothing
It's beena few years now that I've been planning on making light up clothes for myself, LED, EL, fiberoptics. But I keep wondering, how do you clean this stuff after the burn? Make it so all the lighting is removable? Accept that it will never really get cleaned? I've searched and I can't seem to fi...

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
You could get bias tape, some of them are fusible, and use that on the seam edges of the lace and even at the waist of the lace to make it easier to sew. If you used a fusible one it would probably be even easier. The fusible ones are usually iron on, and the bias tape would give you a non-stretchy ...

So the lace itself is stretchy? If so, is it a one-way or two-way stretch? As for the underlining, is that stretchy as well or not stretchy? That will help us with tips.

Re: Costume & Crafting Help
Carriesnarf, definitely nothing wrong with being ambitious. I feel like I have learned a lot that way. You are using two different patterns, if I'm reading your post correctly. What I suspect might be part of the problem is that the armhole and sleeve cap might be drafted differently. I would take t...

One of the best compliments I got all week was when one friend commented on seeing the pink utilikilt and how great it was and wondering where the wearer got it. Then I got to say "I made that for him." It was neat to know people were noticing my work.

I have done it both ways. It can kind of be a pain to disassemble them because the cardboard that crosses over the front and back is usually glued to the filter part. Just make sure you tape them to the outside so you can still put the cut outs back in place to seal the windows when it's really dust...
