Re: Elliot's Naked Bicycle Service, Piano Bar, & Much More 2017

I do not have a count on the bearings we brought. Might have been 100 = 50 bikes. Then we cannibalized spare bikes, our own bikes and whatnot.
Neither do I have a count on the Ashtabula repairs. Only the total bikes repaired.
How many bikes did your repair in all?

Kyla, this link should take you to a handful anecdotes. Not about "home", but about the community of Black Rock City (home of the Burning Man event). Feel free to use this for background.

First, and foremost, Paragraphs, line breaks, and structure please. .... What Token said. You bring up an interesting topic, but I could not force myself to read it. If you write your thesis like that, you will surely flunk. Oh... you would never do that? So... are we ePlayans less-important people...

Re: School Bus 101, long technical post

The tow bill was $1,350. I have Good Sam Road Service, at roughly $100 a year. They towed Millicent for "free" to the nearest town in the direction of my home ($900 for around 15 miles). And I paid $450 for the rest of the way to my house, around 45 miles. Good Sam Road Service is complete...

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition

Elorrum... Photofuckit is now charging hundreds of dollars a year for hosting photos so we can use them elsewhere, like here. In other words... it is harvest time -- they want to harvest our money, after they have been growing us with a free service for years. That's why your bar photo disappeared. ...

Re: School Bus 101, long technical post

Time for an update! By now, most of us are unpacked, and we can start planning for 2018. And if you are going to convert a bus, you need all that time. In other news.... Millicent's engine may have reached the end of the line. Oil in the water. Could be only the oil cooler, but she may also need a w...

What Gaminwench and Ratty said. You will find Vulture Chow here on ePlaya and she is definitely "good people". Also, I am always looking to add new features to our camp. For example, I am currently talking with a lady who sews costumes. If she joins us, we might have the beginnings of a &q...

Bada-bing! Hi, Realsmack... welcome to ePlaya (even if I'm a month late) and thank you for trying to reunite tools with owner. Seems there are more and more of us who bring pianos. Perhaps we ought to form an informal guild? At least be able to locate each other? Tuning services can be difficult to ...

Re: Elliot's Naked Bicycle Service, Piano Bar, & Much More 2017

Not to cause panic or anything, but a complication may have arisen regarding next year's camp. As we know, Millicent The Bus is the anchor point of the camp -- not only as the "Office", but as the central physical attachment structure for all the shade. Well, Millicent was hauled off I-5 l...

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition

One of the first to greet me at Decom was Ratty! Woohoo! But Decom was too noisy for me. It was impossible to get away from all the Loud Sound Art. All conversation had to be done by shouting in each other's ear. Seems to me... conversation is the most important element of any gathering of humans. I...

Re: The Bar 2017 Edition

Lots of folks told me it was a bad year for them in some way. I don't know why. Maybe mass hysteria -- one person said it and the rest copied that because it seemed new and exiting? Of course, the heat, and the highly-unusual lack of wind to counter that heat, was certainly a factor for many. Me... ...

Re: Elliot's version of "This One Time At Burning Man....

Well, it is simply what happened. These are true stories. I add a little pizzazz to my writing style when I can, and I even fill in the occasional gap with a triviality, to maintain the flow of the story, and keep you entertained, but I never change facts such as the vice grips. For example, in Chap...

Re: Elliot's version of "This One Time At Burning Man....

Quite so. However... I had with me TWO proper tuning levers, with tips in both #1 and #2 sizes. And I had neglected to make them available when I was not present.

Edit to add: Ah... of course, an Allen wrench would be far preferable to vice grips, yes.

I like the term "calling card". Of course I'm old enough to remember when to "call" meant to visit in person. And I have seen such cards referred to as "visiting cards". Then the telephone industry invented a way to pay for coin-phone calls with "credit" cards...

We stock 26 x 4.0 "fat" inner-tubes with both Schrader and Presta valves. And some of the in-between sizes like 26 x 3.0. Also a couple 32 inch for that special Kent model (if I remember right). Loooove my 4" wide tires, oh yeah. Like the good Captain says, grab a Dolomite or similar ...

Re: Elliot's Naked Bicycle Service, Piano Bar, & Much More 2017

I'm still unpacking, and will get back to the question of Crankbroke bearings eventually. We have discussed it within the camp also, of course, and there is debate over whether the balls can be reliably run without the cage -- as BBadger reports success with. Somehow, I have never tried it. Of cours...
