Big brimmed hat with long, lightweight, protective panels flowing from it. CDs optional. Long thin ribbons of recycled plastic (shopping bags?) in strips make a nice swishing sound in the wind, maybe to enhance your experience. A few years ago someone was doing what looked like Shaolin KungFu (sp) i...

Crutch donations
Man, it's been awhile! I am finally off crutches and rehabbing. I had doubts I'd be this active again, but the body is an amazing thing. I'll dance on the playa yet! Anyway, I will be back in touch with the burningman911 folks who said they'd set up a crutch donation effort. I'll ask them to post de...

Jeez, for some reason I hadn't put you together with the bike assault....dduhhhh...I'd heard about it but haven't had time to surf the Eplaya lately. Well, you certainly have tons of life-fire (? ? made it up...) and offers of support; I'll bet you'll heal well. Good healing wishes to you and your l...

Ahahaha! I love it! The meteor umbrella reminds me of a Halloween costume I wore with my babies when they were young once to protest the nuclear plants - we were a Nuclear Family, all raggedy and green and carrying a melted-through umbrella.

flackmaster - thanks for that note. Even you had an accident, eh! (easy, kiddin around here). I guess you are the master of flack - sure got me going! I like the concept of self-reliance extending to a community - and it's true, it's more prevalent on The-playa than here. I wonder why? Talk about sel...

Not a bad idea, cryptofish. Thought about something like that, but after talking to them I'll leave it to the med folks to say what they think will work best for them. I find it interesting that there is such an undercurrent of unkindness in many of the replies. What happened to me was purely an acc...

Fabuloso!
I am very thrilled to report that the burningman911 folks were wonderfully receptive to the idea of a crutch drive and like me wondered why it hadn't happened before. No matter, next year there will be more mobile and protected folks, and I am glad. And will help if needed. All of which was my origin...

The best way to insure that it comes about is to step up to the plate and fill the void yourself. Black Rock City is STILL full of examples where people over the years have identified such needs and have followed through with seeing that they're filled rather than putting it on the project. Which i...

Thanks, Badger
A medical team is a good thing to have on hand, as self reliant as I may be (you'd dig my real medical kit), there could be some injuries I just couldn't deal with. That said, it's reasonable to me count on someone being there with a medical degree or EMT experience, some decent trauma hardware and...

Wishes/fishes
If wishes were fishes....we'd all have ... crutches! I am now using a used pair that work OK on the lowest setting, I'm guessing a lot of folks would benefit by a few spare pairs. Thanks for your tale. Sounds like your participative spirit is too strong to subdue, I feel that! I was feeling a bit te...

Why no crutches at Medic?
Greetings from the Injured List; I am wondering why there are no crutches at the Med facilities. I was lacerated and had to get cleaned & sutured by the wonderful paramedics from Reno, and then ferried back to camp to make the best of it. Couldn't walk, no crutches available anywhere in the city. Ma...

have done this last few years
I have been taking a 30 yr old tent trailer, snap down green canvas and all. I silicon-sprayed it and tried to hit any leak holes. Held up pretty well, was bouncing my side off the tire during one windstrom but was fine. Make sure the stabilizer feet actually go down all the way. This year afriend b...

I had a fabulous opening experience attending single and solo - indeed! Even during '99, the last crazy-ass anything-goes year (not that it's still not crazy and fun, just more sensible) - I felt safer than anywhere and I travel the country solo for business. Where else could I wander around my 'hoo...

So..hmmmm.
I am thinking that an awning will not be enough shade by itself. Do you think that even if a tarp is tied over the whole RV and tied out with the awning for "lift"...that it'll still be in danger if we leave it?
I mean, not counting 70+ mph winds where almost everything is in danger of blowing down.

RV awning question!!!
Well after many years of tents, then moving up to an old old tent trailer for a couple years, this year a buddy that I infected with Burneritis last year has gone and bought an RV. Wow! What a change that will be. He is installing an awning, fold-out RV type. I am wondering if anyone's had experienc...

A few years ago ('99?), he not only kept both arms down, but spontaneously combusted from the center, which set off all the fireworks...and at the same time began a shoulder-shaking movement that looked for all the world like he was going to walk off across the playa! We were all amazed and at least...

Holy Toejam, Batman. I am feeling blessed that in all the years out there I have never ever had any playa-foot symtoms. No footbaths, rarely lotion...just my daily solar shower on a straw mat, and sunscreen with a lovely pearly layer of playa dust. I wear big thick foamy platform sandals in daytime,...
