Re: Your art
so if I perform naked spoken word art on the playa, I have to pay BM to go on Broadway with it? :o The humanity!
In a way, yes. If you use the name Burning Man or any of the performance reproduced from the playa you must seek and get written permission(in the form of a legall...

Re: Your art
I am not an apologist. I do tend to rally around the event because so many people take pot shots at it, meaningless cheap potshots, that seem more like deliberate misunderstanding than like honest mistakes. Smug, superior tone to prose such as:
I think this is a fine...

Re: Your art
Eric, the reasons do not change the fact that they own rights to your art. This is not a twisted view, but a factual and legal one. Artists beware. Do your homework.

Re: Your art
So I am curious, does them owning your art actually change because of the opinion in that blog? No it doesn't. As I said this is merely a statement of fact and I encourage the artist to do the work in reading. Sure that blog should be read along with the part of the contract you enter in to when you...

Re: Your art
The replies are funny because of the denial. Lest newbies be mislead by this outpouring of banality- it is actually true. Please read about it.

Your art
I think this is a fine time to remind all the attendees that the art you make on the playa is not really your art. It in part belongs to Burning Man and in order to publish or sell it you must obtain written permission and pay a 10% tithe to Burning Man for the privilege.

Oh you're right
How silly of me, just because it's been there for years- that makes it fine. I apologize.

Not for sale
Well I am still for the nothing for sale on the playa aspect so I can't agree with them selling anything (ice, coffee included). The addition of this whoreish behavior- selling calendars and t-shirts post playa, circumventing their very own conditions for photographers and artists from selling their...

Just wanted to fill the requisite: It is the [best|worst] theme ever. That I [have x+1 more than you number of years attending the event|am a virgin] should prove that I know what I am talking about. Lawsuit
Been looking for information on the progress of the lawsuit. Given that John Law had such a strong case, did Larry and Marian drop their posturing and come to some sort of agreement out of court?

Old army style tents
Anyone have any experience with these on the playa? I expect they are only as good as the guy wires... but I am looking at buying on so any information would be helpful.

Indeed
The instructions should also give you covering ideas. The bottom walls are easy. One rectangle piece will wrap around it nice and flat. The top has a little more to it, but not much. Make a stencil of one triangle. Trace it 5 times on the tarp you're using so you end up with a hexagon with one wedg...

One frequency dome covering
So I took the advice- got the starplates- incredible. Gonne use the 8' wall studs for the struts. Question is- what is the math for coervering this thing. I know that if I want to make the top have only one seam, I have to leave an empty triangle- what is the degree of the angle of the empty space? ...

I've got it now
Hexagon, like espresso camp. 5' emt tubing struts connected with the 120 deg. roof connectors from shelter systems (car port stuff). The roof will be 6 crossed and bowed pvc- like a dome. Covering of canvas drop cloths with grommets and attached to the poles. canvas for the roof too. Hell, I could m...

No pony tail
braids. The largest possible. I do two on each side with cotton cloth interwoven. Easy to remove and detangle. I tried the multiple bo derek style and that not only hurt my sensitive head after 2 days but taking them out was a nightmare.

Damn
Seems my last reply to this was lost in the ether. I have looked at the starplate things. Some background- My initial design for the playa house was based on what I have been using for 3 years- the Coleman gazebo. I was going to make it out of wood. 6 roof beam that connect to something similar to t...

Espresso- thanks
That structure is flipping brilliant. It helps that I love coffee too. You know- I think I might be in over my head this year with this idea. I am headed to Home crackpot this week to refresh my memory of materials. I may retreat to the idea of two different structures- a 1v bucky of emt w/10' strut...

Center pole structures
This year will be my first attempt at this type of thing. It will be covered in canvas drop cloth material and hexagonal in shape. I plan on one center mast ~12' and six outer vertical supports of 5'5". I plan on using climbing rope and rope runners for the roof guy wires and wratcheting tie downs a...
