Remembering this incident. Horrible tragedy that resulted in many campers who merely contributed to the decoration of an art car having to pay attorneys thousands of dollars plus an eventual settlement. Crazy.

Postscript to this tragedy: About half of the (36) impleaded defendants were able to secure attorneys paid for by insurance. The other half paid out of their pockets for attorneys to represent them, I've heard some paid up to $10k each total throughout the legal extortion process. In summary: an ent...
It was not Ms. Lampmans estate but her life insurance policy's company that did, which is standard practice. I get a free half million life insurance policy through work and if you kill me, the company I work for, its life insurance company will sue too. I read the fine print.
Teo del...
I've heard things as extreme as the Bar Car was going 20-30 mph when it happened, and that Kathy was dragged for some time before finally becoming untangled from some chains that were wrapped around her ankle. I've heard that the driver was intoxicated, on drugs, not all there, etc. etc. I've...

Norcal said: "I doubt any of you really know the real details of the lawsuit. " On the contrary. At least one of us does, and the information given out about the lawsuit here is public information, rather deatiled and mostly accurate. And the reason we're talking about this here is not to debate the...

I'd like to respond to a couple of points so far: "But why even put a dance floor ontop of a car in the first place. I think common sense was mentioned earlier. What common sense tells a person to build a dancefloor ontop of a truck. I say that if your going to provide such a platform that the creat...

The camp raised thousands of dollars for the family immediately after the accident to cover any funeral costs and to fund an art program at a local school (she was an artist). So they are not suing for their costs. The plaintiffs have not established an amount, at this stage they only have to state ...

Regarding some of the speculation: the Plaintiff is not an insurance company. Kathy's Mom is suing for wrongful death on behalf of her estate. A 3-person law firm in San Jose is prosecuting the claim on contingency (for a share of the settlement). However, insurance company lawyers are involved in t...

Update: The lawsuit is moving forward (Kathy died in August 2003), but they are still in the part of the process in which parties are being served and hiring lawyers. To date, 36 people have been sued by the Plaintiffs or joined by the Defendants. And it should concern every Burner out there that EV...

Drama camp, eh? Well, guess what? I spoke to a member of their camp and EVERY INDIVIDUAL IN THE ENTIRE CAMP HAS BEEN JOINED IN THE LAWSUIT. That's right, every single camp member under the theory that their $30 or so everyone contributed to group expenses contributed to Kathy's accidental death. If ...
