Sweet! Green! Haven't been since they started posting these. As a map nerd I'm in love with it. It really gives something for people to aim for.

Re: post what you didn't like about 2011 here

That camp does demonstrate the existence of class, but it's been that way for a long time. There are people who come in RVs, some spending as much as $10,000 for the trip and others who show up with a hitched ride and an old tent spending a few hundred on their experience. There are people who fund...

Re: post what you didn't like about 2011 here

I haven't been since 2005. Something that struck me is the way that most of the first few streets on a radial, and down A street just seemed like parking lots. I understand people have to park, but it wasn't very fun in a lot of the areas around where I stayed (4 & J). The busyness up there and ...

Re: The Pier

This was my favorite piece of the entire event. I was camped on 4:00 o clock so the pier and the lifeguard house really brought a nice theme to my treks home across the open playa. The faint glow, on those godforsaken cold nights, of the lights on the pier guiding me in! We went out I believe on Mon...

That looks awesome. I love stuff like this. An overwhelming reason I go to burning man is for smaller scale neighborhood interactions like this. I swear I have a better time out on 4 oclock & K where I camped then most anywhere else. I see you were up in God's Territory though with the JOTS!

Re: Exodus 2011

According to BMIR (or, more accurately, to campmates listening to BMIR more closely than I was) there were accidents on 447 and I80 that slowed down traffic between BRC and I80, not just out of the city. Does anyone know if this is true? Anyone planning on staying behind on Labor Day next year goin...

The guy was very tall, around 6' 5'' or so. I'm really sorry that this happened to you. I can imagine the shock that it sent to those around you and yourself. Also I could imagine that it would be hard for someone to run and tackle such a large man. I'm 6' 260# and my internal self preservation (sc...

Re: Exodus 2011

Absolutely brutal! I haven't been since 2005. And had gone in 2002, 03 and 04. Each year leaving the morning after the temple burn. ~8am. And never waiting long or it never seeming like I waited at all to get out. This year we tried to leave a little earlier and left camp at 6:30am Monday morning. D...

I'm not an electrician or anything, but typically red and black would be your hot in wires and white would be your negative out, green would be the grounding wire which would likely not connect to the plug. Just a screw somewhere. I looked at the pictures but feel like i'm still missing something. ...

She decked out her bike in some handspun yarn, it's pretty sweet. I'll write down both of your camps. ALCO...

Re: Electrolyte drinks

the key Elecrtolite you need out there is Potasium. Coconut water. 10-15% RDA Even takes the dumb out of hangovers. And if you don't like coconut juice, grab some orange juice. The lots-of-pulp stuff I get (which is the one true way for those who don't know) has around that much potassium in each g...

Re: Sound shield for generators - best design?

I've been thinking a lot about making one of these also. jkisha's idea is very easy and I think i've been over thinking it. I was planning on making two U shaped pieces one that fits around 3 sides of the generator and one larger one that fits around the open end of the first U and covers both sides...

To echo what someone else had said about staying in Reno over night. We come from Seattle, our first few years we drove right through the night and got in around 5am. Line wasn't too bad. But we were bummed out from driving so long and felt like we wasted all the day Monday recovering. Since then we...

Re: Inverter vs Generator

Suspended Animation uses both! We have an inverter, and charge it with our generator. The advantage is that we can run the generator full force into the inverter to charge it, then trickle power off the inverter for the rest of the day. This means we don't run the genny 24/7 just to power a string ...

Inverter vs Generator

Hi all, I had a question to pose to the masses. This won't be my first trip to Blackrock however I am trying to do something I've not done prior years. As far as power before we had a camp which utilized a deep cell battery and LED Christmas lights. We charged the battery with a solar panel (small o...
