Generator circuit question
Suppose you had several different devices being directly powered by the same manually cranked or pedaled (or wind blown, etc...) DC generator. For a simple example- not an actual project- say you have 5 10-watt lightbulbs , and the generator can put out anything from 0-50 watts depending on how fast...

Thanks...
http://www.burningman.com/art_of_burningman/ammonite_gallery.html That looks a lot better than what I was thinking of making. And the zig-zag ribs hadn't occured to me, but it would probably be stronger that way. I thought of solving the inflexible tarp problem by hooking the corners of each sheet ...

Who has played with those CCFL blacklights?
If you have, do you recommend them? I've seen cheap ones on eBay and elsewhere. They are 8 or 12 inches long and marketed for casemod geeks. I'm wondering how effective they would be to light a structure or vehicle that was covered in fluorescent paint or fabric. About how far away will they make it...

prescription goggles
I found some well-made & nice looking prescription swim goggles that can be had for $30 , shipping included. The lenses only come in .5 increments, but you can have different strengths for each eye. Fit is very good around the eyes, but the strap is a bit tight even fully extended. (Or maybe I just ...

I love those wooden peg gear mechanisms, and I have a kinetic sculpture mechanism floating around in my head that uses them. If they're good enough for Leonardo, they're good enough for me... The problem I'm stuck on is a wooden escapement to go with them. Perhaps "escapement" is not the exact term ...

I personally think that the art themes in general are lame and trite and exist to be broken, and that the idea of trying to make Burning Man environmentally responsible is both unnecessary and a lost cause from the beginning. So- that makes this a bit of a troll thread. The difference, I hope, from ...

May I assume generators are right out next year?
Well? It just seems to me like if the theme of the event is GREEN, you can't make something that's powered by a gas engine. At least, I couldn't and not feel like a total dick. So in 2007 it's going to be all about the homemade wind turbines, solar battery chargers, and battery-cages of manacled nak...

Re: Your job.
I don't have the money to go this year anyway. :( My brother just tossed some mail in my door, and it was a form letter from the IRS saying that they owe me- no, that wasn't a typo- they owe me $249.00 for 2004 and my new refund check is in the mail. That's gotta be some kind of... omen? Add that t...

Your job.
Most people have to work. Most jobs do not allow you to disappear for a week for no reason at all; and most employers do not consider "to dress up like a clown and go party in the middle of desert" a good enough reason. All the tens of thousands of you who are going this year have necessarily found ...

I've been thinking some more about this. Think I am still going to go low-tech for this year for financial reasons, but I can at least get it planned out for later... There would be more than 10 units, I'm actually thinking of more than 100... And I want them all to be interchangeable so it can scal...

Oh, I don't need any -physical- help, I was just looking for people who could suggest general approaches and specific components, and whom I could bug with technical questions when it inevitably failed to work right. Anyway; I think I have to put this project on hold for some other year, because it ...

Art concept in need of electrical engineering assistance
I have an idea for an art project but I don't yet have the technical knowledge to make it happen- or even to determine whether it would be doable. It's something that requires pretty advanced knowledge of electronic components, but I can't just look it up somewhere because I would not using them in ...
