Specter,

I attended the first half of my first BM solo and loved it. I think the fact that I was there by myself really made me reach out and meet people in a way I probably wouldn't have if I had been camping with a group.

Whatever you decide, have a great time :)

By the way, a curry-making CLASS would be an excellent idea, and maybe one to pursue for 2007.

Does anyone know if the health dept. rules apply to burners making their own food from supplied raw or frozen ingredients?

Sadly, the minor gods of capitalism demand that no curry shall come to the playa from my hands....in other words, I couldn't get the time off of work, so I won't be able to burn this year.

I will make curry at home and think of you fondly....

...until 2007 then

I already posted one experience, but I just remembered this one. Driving home from BM '05 and entering Sacramento, I saw a woman in her 20's or so walking on the street. Of course, Sacramento was about 110 degrees at the time and I remember thinking "Why on earth is she wearing all those clothes - i...

Wow, I'm away from my computer for two days and WWIII breaks out...over bare female chests...at Burning Man...supposedly the most "openminded" event around. Can you imagine what would happen if CT happened in the regular, everyday world of the USA? It would keep Jerry Springer and Dr. Phil employed ...

No safety stops for you!!
Yeah, well, maybe a safety stop would be OK. But I still hope to be a little narced :)

get shut down and have to reinvent ourselves as serving our own "Camp" Or, it could just be a requirement that anyone wanting to partake of the curry must spend the night. That could make for a very interactive camp! I am interested in the pizza! I say do it anyways, screw the health people and wha...

Good idea Pikey - hosting "classes" could be fun :)
Don't mind me, I nit-pick. Don't get me started on apostrophes, they're my pet peeve, right along with the heavily misused "impact." See? Nit-picky.
But what exactly is the impact of a mis'used apostrophe'? Just kiddin'.

I'm distracted by cheep ass screws. More later when I can think. I agree Amiculus...the cheaper the screw, the more distracting. I've heard you get what you pay for... Most of the wrecks are at less than 60 feet so overall this should be a pretty straightforward process. And I was so hoping to spen...

Uh, vegetarian dishes can carry just as much bacteria and other bugs as meat-laden dishes. Really. Meatless does not equal no spoilage You're right, and yes, I do know veggies can spoil. I didn't include all the food prep details because it seemed like a moot point to me since I can't do the restau...

That's why I figured on making the curries vegetarian. Aside from the fact that they're good that way, no meat = no spoilage. All the other ingredients are either dry or canned/bottled. Yes, I love curry too (obviously). Last year I was a friendless and lonely BM virgin, and I invited random burners...

A dive camp sounds like fun - count me in!! It would also be cool if you offered a "dive bar", and perhaps a scuba experience for the uninitiated. My husband and I have tried this with several friends/family in backyard pools and they've all loved it. Not sure of the logistics or legality though. -C...

Chai guy - you're so right. I just reread my post and I was pretty snarky wasn't I? Body image + others' perceived value = big time insecurity for me, I guess. Here I am, all irritated at others pushing their rights on me, and here I go vomiting my views all over the board. Sorry about that, and tha...

I hate the talk of "rights" and "rules." If we genuinely care about eachother and the experience of community, shouldn't we naturally avoid doing things that cause others insecurity? I have been attempting and rejecting public nudism for most of my adult life. Why? Because even though I enjoy being ...

wow, no kidding. Thanks for the info...I had no idea things were so regulated. how about using an "itty bitty book light" or other clipable-type small light? That way you could direct the light down onto your board. Just a thought. Any interest in a curry restaurant/pizzaria?

Last year was my first burn, and this year I would like to be more participatory. My husband and I were talking about setting up a playa restaurant serving various vegetarian curries (Thai, Indian, etc), as well as pizza and juices or teas. We have no idea about the logistics of getting this togethe...

'05 was my first burn and I spent most of the week alone until my husband joined me on Friday. One of the things I think about most often (now, six months later) was the sudden realization that I couldn't escape myself on the playa. Although I met many wonderful people and enjoyed myself immensely, ...
