Upcoming Triplopia Article: Burning Man in the Outside World
Hey there everyone, My name is Susan, aka Quiet Girl, and this will be my eighth year attending Burning Man. I'm working on an article for http://www.triplopia.org , which is a poetry ezine. Someone somewhere mentioned that BMs presence is severely lowering the water table, which isn't true at all and is in fact an ill-informed statement. The basin that Frog Pond is in produces 28,000 acre feet of water per year (1 acre foot = 330,000 gallons) and we pump about maybe 1 million gallons f...

QUOTE: It seems reasonable to conclude that in a state where the government pre-emptively controls all water rights, due to scarcity..... Michael B. Stewart, a BM appellant who owns Orient Farms and High Rock Holding Co., owns water rights in the Hualapai Valley. More on NV water rights: http://wate...

Long Winter's Night
I discovered this drink quite accidentally during the 2002 event:
1 part Oregon Chai (regular or Kashmir green tea will do)
1 part Milk
1 and 1/2 shots of Bushmill's Whiskey

...I thought about getting a car cover from Pep Boys or one of those places and decorating that. I figured that I could cut out a place for the windows and then sew large quilt squares onto it or get some fur or other strange fabric to make my car look less like a boring, undecorated car while I'm w...

The only problem I forsee with letting art car drivers "police" the playa w/out DMV help is that it may be (intentionally or most likely unintentionally) abused. Loving and wanting to protect the city may make some people think they've got a right to scream at the top of their lungs at every poor so...

Sorry, Badger...I *should* know better than to spread the "Should"s around, and if I weren't already taxed to the end working for another illustrious (or is that infamous?) Burning Man dept., then I'd put my money where my mouth is on that front, get together a crew of people and make something cool...

Perhaps what the DMV ought to do is establish a "Mutant Vehicle" patrol to moniter Art Cars out on the playa, much like the Rangers or Perimeter. A few DMV art cars or altered golf carts designed to be recognizable as being from that department might deter random drivers out for a joyride in their d...

I like John
Larry actually credits John and Jerry in interviews. I think the media likes to focus on one individual (kind of like the vocalist of a band that gets alot of attention even though there's many equal players) to make it easier on themselves. Lazy bastards. I really like John. He's got a prankster's ...

BLUE BIRD POOF: From what I've heard (I've never met him) he doesn't seem like a pleasent person to be around. Your sources are incorrect, whomever they are. He's actually quite nice, can converse intelligently on a number of subjects, is occasionally self-deprecating and has been a gentleman in an ...

BOB: I'm like totally bummed that no one brings up the one-armed dog-murderer. Anybody found a way to blame that on Larry? Yes. The One-Armed Man was brought in by the LLC to thin out our ranks and thus free up the commissary budget so those worthy enough to remain with DPW could afford a contract f...

Quote: I suppose it can't really be shit talk if anyone does say it to your face. My ex-hubby was a world-class shit-talker...one of his favorite things was to "talk shit" to the face of whomever it was he wanted to attack, just to make them angrier and angrier, usually to their breaking point. Of c...

Talkin' Shit!
The worst thing about shit-talkers is they almost never say anything to your face, choosing to hide instead out of cowardice thinly disguised as politeness. The second worst thing is that most people who talk shit have little or no real knowledge of the person they're using up their free time and br...
