Radio Electra

Radio Electra was cranking out a wide range of music all week, from Sunday to Sunday, at 89.9 FM. This wil be Gary's 8th straight year bringing Electra to the playa, and he puts out enough power to reach all over BRC. Sorry you didn't find us during the week this year. Should be the same frequency n...

This dust mask has worked very well for me for several years now. I've only had to change filters every couple of years:

No problem! Come on by to get your tunes this year, too. We've upgraded the audio gear, and the software I use to make the discs, so the dancing should be smooth sailing all the way through. ps. A famous old reggae lyric is "Pass the kuchie on the left hand side". When those little kids in...

Annual SCARAB Dance: Night in a Kuchie

Just a brief note that this year's annual SCARAB Tues. night world music dance will be "Night in a Kuchie: World Reggae." Skanking sounds from Africa, Brazil, India and other far-flung locales, as well as from ground zero in Jamaica. As in the past 5 years, the first 50 dancers get a CD of...

Star Lush Lounge

For the 2nd year in a row, I'd have to say the StarLush Lounge. They consistently created a friendly atmosphere with a wide variety of folks attracted to their mobile funk mobiles. Smiling bartenders, girls shadowdancing on the roof, dynamite DJ booth in the back of the Cadi, what more do you want?

making a humidifier

If you're bringing an instrument with any wood on it at all, I would suggest making a little humidifier for the case....which is easy to do: cut up a piece of sponge and put it in a 35mm film container. Poke holes in the lid with an icepick. Wet (but don't sop) the sponge as you get to Nevada. Once ...

I know that the guitar players in that style are some of the best in Africa. Long, complex single-note lines played with a clean amp tone, FAST, for hours upon end.

When I dance to it, I try to cut the beat in half (to avoid hip injuries) :-)

Hope you can make our Tuesday dance!

anyone from Circosemillas Camp? (re: Flamenco stroll)

I saw a great event in the playa calendar, where musicians are supposed to meet at Circosemillas Camp at 7pm from Wed.-Sun. to have a stroll of flamenco musicians around the streets of Black Rock City. Only problem is that I don't see that camp listed. Anyone know if they're a placed theme camp? May...

location

SCARAB Camp: at 7:30 and Brave (next door to our sister camp, Radio Electra). Look for two life-sized Shivas having a tug-of-war along our street frontage, and a circle of flags inside the camp. Dance under the stars with SCARAB, Tues. night, 8-10:45. First 50 dancers get a CD of the night's mix.
