Diabetics on the Playa
My first year I was not diagnosed diabetic at the time. Now I'm an insulin dependant pregnant diabetic and need to reassure my Drs that I'll have what I need. Does anyone else have any experience with this?

I would love to see bare breasts be the norm. Breasts are, first and foremost, te best way to feed a child. I am SICK of women having to justify feeing their child in public because our society wants to label them as sexual objects. Women have to stop objectifying *themselves* first, by not being af...

Actually, her threat is illegal, and constitutes harrassment - she is seeking a certain response from you by threatening certain action, that is harrassment. I would definately contact the higher-ups and tell them what happened, and that if any mention of it at any time will result in a harrassment ...

LJ/Literature Camp?
Capt. Adaquit and I have been brainstorming some ideas around writing, stories, storytelling, etc. I didn't see a lot of this on the playa last year. We were thinking of bringing some recording equipment and doing some (small) group storytelling and record it for later transcription and offer it to ...

Angelface, the Costco guy was a volunteer, wearing only a costco smock on Wed. He was a bookish sort of guy with a goatee and short brown hair, very Jewish-looking (?). Had glasses, wasn't the loud, boisterous type at all, but was extremely intuitive.... Ah well, off the playa, I'm attached, so, per...

I confess to being too timid to get spanked at the spank-o-matic like I planned. I confess to disliking a lot of my campmates, and not being shy about it at all - I barely knew them. I confess to taking off alone everyday because I couldn't stand them, and having a GREAT time. I confess that I didn'...

It was over for me this weekend, when I took my bag and tent back to my storage closet and put it away. But, it is never really over. Even though I'm at work, with a computer and phone, driving my baby to daycare and doing all the "normal" life things, pieces of the playa still find me. I have the B...

I *did* see Monkeyboy coming out of the portapotties... I was LMAO when I saw him! I don't remember what day it was, but I started a round of applause for the pump guys. They have the worst job in the WORLD and they did it with smiles on their faces! As for the pottie color - they are blue because t...

After the White out on Sunday, I was thouroughly PISSED OFF at all the art cars that almost ran me over in the dust. I was walking back through center camp from the Temple, covered in dust (I'm a black girl, so I was quite a sight!) and someone offered me an ICE cold beer. I was so relieved! Then wh...

How about the DMV do a better job of policing the vehicles they "allow" to operate before passing jugement on what is art and what is not? If the vehicles allowed to drive in BRC are not following the rules stated in their license, then it doesn't matter whether or not they are art, they shouldn't b...

Does this count as an injury? My Dr. at home told me to stop taking water pills for my high blood pressure while on the playa... low and behold, I was at the medical tent hours after arriving, with a sky-high BP. Monday they sent me to Gerlach to get more meds and it was still high all week. NOT goo...

Lady Laughter and the Lamp
(Some of this is 2nd hand, as I did not attend BM in 2002, 2003 was my first year.) In 2002 on the night of the Burning of the Man, an older woman in a wheelchair asked a lamplighter if she could have the lamp he carried, as they finished lighting the lamps. It was a specific lamp she wanted, and re...

After almost getting run over in the white out on Sunday, going back to camp looking like abominable snow girl and being REALLY pissed off at the drivers of the art cars that nearly ran me over, Cpt. I have not had a chance to read all the replies, so forgive me if I'm being redundant here (at work :( ). As a camp member of a responsible art car owner, I was dissappointed at the lack of respect for pedestrians a lot of art cars had, esp. Sunday afternoon during the dust storm. The license for ar...

Even as a virgin (to BM) this year, I was impressed by the philosophy that BM is an experience *outside* everyday culture, and that the same "rules" didn't apply. even in every day life I try not to assign roles and paint lines for people as far as sexuality goes and I wish the would could always be...
