. . . and now that my computer difficulties are resolved and I'm finally back on the e-playa, I can see I have many thoughtful and helpful responses waiting.

what would be the proper plural of "Burning Man"?
Referring to the annual event, not the burned-on-Saturday icon itself:
"I've attended four Burning Mans."
"I've attended four Burning Men."
Both sound awkward.
Yes, it's an extremely slow day here at work, why do you ask?

The website checklist doesn't mention these, but some personal checklists do, and I advocate them to whomever I can: baby wipes. Bring a lot. Just a quick bodily wipe-down--after a walk, first thing in the morning, before bed-- is SO refreshing. (Freeze them ahead of time and keep them in the cooler...

2:00 side definitely dustier
Esp. in 2001, when the roads on that side consisted of three inches of talcum powder.

There's nothing more adorable than an enthusiastic BM newbie. I hope that doesn't sound condescending, 'cause I don't mean it to be. E-playa comments and attitudes like yours, Tristan, are a shot in the arm reminding me just how wonderful being at BM can feel. That said. . . some aspects of the even...

The Burn itself was by far my best ever (this was my fourth year). I've never been crazy about the stand-around part first (a little fire-spinning goes a long way for me), so two friends and I decided to walk around and look at more art installations far, far out on the empty playa. We went out agai...

A panda walks into a bar and orders a sandwich. The bartender is surprised but gives him one. The panda finishes it, gets up, and walks away. "Hey, pal, you have to pay for that." "No, I don't," replies the panda. "Look it up in the dictionary." "Whaddya mean, look it up?" The panda says nothing, bu...

re: hothouse flowers
That is so cool! It would be wonderful if more musicians felt that way. (Didn't one of the members record & tour wth Tim Finn a few years back?) I've always wondered if BMORG had a problem with celebrities attending. What if Madonna wanted to come & pitch a tent & dress up at night & use the porta-p...

Hmmm. . . I think that many musicians, once music becomes their day job--once they start relying on it to pay for rent and groceries--would be unlikely to "gift" their music if it would entail an expenditure of capital. (NB: Many, not all. Unlikely, not impossible.) Paying the ticket price + expense...

"Dancing at its best is an interaction between dancer and musician. I just find it difficult to interact with a tape loop or drum machine." Good point. For me dance music is about immersing myself in a big sonic wash, a sensory overstimulus. Trance music is pretty good at doing this; the relentless ...
