Re: Help catch the guy who assaulted the Musical Dancing Rob
GRRRRR! I WISH I HAD SEEN THAT! I would have done SOMETHING to stop that asshole! We saw you dancing at the base of the Man sometime during the week - Thursday night was it? Anyway, you were one of our fondest memories and we wished we had gotten a picture with you - but we were too busy laughing ou...

this thread is dead (or so I've read)
but for those who are curious about the early days I suggest this book - it's probably one of the most detailed books on the who-what-where-when-why-and-how Zone Trip #4 became Burning Man.
ok so it's the only one I read but it's a really good book!

Hi SofaKing!
Hey was just reading this thread and all the confusion. :roll: Weird. Anywho, just wanted to say Hi James! We were with CSC in '07, and met some really wonderful people, including some from Europe and New Zealand. Will miss Toast big time if she doesn't come. We'll be in Gigsville again this year an...

(10 days for us) I always have mixed feelings about coming back to default world... ~ANYHOO~ This is just a post to let anyone who wants to try it know that: YES, a Honda 1000w EU generator will successfully run a small 515watt home/window air conditioner on the playa durin...

"The Honda EU1000 is rated at 900 watts, 1000 is it's "surge" rating, and the altitude is nearly 5000 feet." Ew. Then it looks like: 107F and 5000 ft, then: 1.5% x 3 =4.5% & 1% x 5 + another 6% =11% 4.5% of 900 watts = 40.5 (temp) + 11% of 900 watts = 99 (elevation)= wattage is reduced by 139.5 watt...

So I found this on http://www.usdieselengines.com/how_altitude_and_temperature_affect_power_generators.htm Power Adjustment for Ambient Conditions: Temperature, Altitude and Elevation can affect your generator power performance output. Use the following calculation adjustment factors to f...

it's been working here...
We bought the smallest little window AC we could get: It's only 515w. We ran it via the Honda 1000 for like 4 hours today. Although, we are in the valley. It remains to be seen if it will run it at that elevation (what is that elevation anyway?) and in the extreme heat and dust. Plan B is to bring a...

hey I liked yer auxiliary gas tank idea, Captain! We're on the same sleeping schedule as Mosin - It's dance dance dance dance - watch sunrise - pass out. Wake up 2 hours later dripping sweat. Not this year my pretties! Because we now have the quiet generator, our box won't have to be so elaborate. B...

Problem Solved!
So I researched the hell out of this, reading all the comments here and on other forums and websites, and talked to other real live people also. I figured the best way to reduce the noise pollution on that generator (aside from turning it off) would be to build the 4 sided enclosure box out of sound...

water = bad idea!
THANKS FOR THE TIP! :idea: I really don't want to kill the genny - at least not until they make one that will run solely on hempseed oil... I was thinking about rigging a small computer type fan (I could plug it into the generator) on the side of said box to bring in fresh air - ? Hell, maybe two - ...

generator boxes / backpressure / water???
y'all sound pretty knowledgable about this so I thought I'd post me question here: We are bringing our small but damn loud genny to run our AC during the day. We read about creating a generator box (with no top or bottom) on the BM website - wanted to know how well that actually works to lower decib...
