I just want to celebrate this phrase someone brought about: Burning Man isn't about one thing or another. Burning Man isn't about telling others what kinds of things they're allowed to create And add one of mine: "I suspect of what I think if it involves accusing someone else" note first person.

I was hoping more for a post like: "Gatonegro, I have a press and you are welcome to use it! come over, I'm in San Francisco"

Or something like: "my friend Sooroobee has an arbor press and he charges 25 cents a hit"

or maybe "you can buy the right press for less than $100"

oh well.

squish ends

How do I squish my conduit ends?
My budget for that is $100 and have no arbor press at sight.

Any ideas will be hugely appreciated.

Hey , Does anybody know who are the guys that paint people from head to toes with some kind of POWDER? They look incredibly bright and awesome. I'm not talking about the ones that use sprayers and kiddie pools (that's us) We are trying to expand to that technique in which they achieve extremely brig...

mmmm. is that supposed to answer the tearing question, or just general interest?

I'm not planning to test my satellites in the playa this year. I like to do that when i'm in the mood. YOu know, otherwise the tests come crooked.

mylar

does anybody have experience with mylar?
what thickness?
does it tear?
How would you glue/tape it together?
the guys that carry it tell me that when it starts tearing, it tears like butter, but it's hard to start it.

I found some at
http://www.nielsensenterprises.com/snomo/mylar.htm

swirly LED's for bike

Hey, Does anybody know that LED gizmo that swirls in bicycle wheels and produces an amazing rotational pattern :?: Not the usual "tire flare" but something that's clipped along a spoke and makes amazing swirly pattern. If I can find it, I will mount it in a staff and have it drawing in the air. gato...

Holy Mackerel! now I get it, dMan. It would pull inwards. My mind figured the triangles flat. darnit! And I like to think of myself as a 3d thinking unit. I wonder if there's any possible modification to "my" idea that would address the angle problem. ... Suppose the ropes are just tight enough so t...

Thanks Burp! Thanks Robotland. That's what I needed. a previous iteration of this solution plus some encouragement. We are Sporosite camp, that is the bodypainting camp, the one that sprays people head to toes in little pools. We don't have location yet, but i'll certainly paint you guys if you come...

lines from vertexes to middle of struts

Hey Robotland, I don't mean to be stubborn (funny that I still manage to be, though) but why would you need to tighten lines so much? even with a loose line, a flexed pole could only flex as much as the line would let it go. Unless it flexes from a quarter of its size (as if it was a footer) I will ...

you can be assessed by the greeters on your way in.

Hey Burp! How long were the struts of your f2 dome? and how thick was the conduit? Robotland, are you SURE of what you are saying about the lines going from vertexes to middle of struts not being of much help? to my very basic understanding, that would keep poles from flexing, reducing the length to...

big 2v

How about a 2v dome out of 1" conduit with 10' struts, if you reinforce it by running a line from each vertex to each strut midpoint? I have read this somewhere, and seems to make sense. The lines would keep the poles from flexing (you would have to break the line to flex any pole, i think) That sho...

How about agricultural polyethelene? it goes for about $20 for a 100' roll that's 10' wide. That and tarp tape, or better even GLUING shingling triangles should work. It's black and it's made to be in the sun, so it won't melt. greenhouse effect? i think it comes in green too, which make for a milde...
