Lowes phone order.
Give the parts list from the link in the previous post to Lowes and they will pull the items for you and you can pick them up on the way out to the playa. Don't forget to order a hammer and pvc cutter (cutter is option, but is inexpensive and makes life easier).

No brakes needed unless you get stopped by tribal police
You will be fine. In five years I have never used my brakes. But I am slow. That being said - people do tend to cut in front of you at the intersections at night when the roads tend to be bike congested - there are so many blinkies, bike lights and e-wire that it would be nice to have some brakes in...

It the best three hundred dollars I ever spent. I come every year and when I look back over the past year and reflect on what I spent my money on, I can't think of anything that gave me greater pleaser than the money I spend on my annual pilgrimage to playa mecca.

you can always collect water in a rain barrel.
You might want to up your water. I always take 20 gallons just for me. I usually have some left over. But it really feels good at the end of hot sticky day to throw a whole gallon in a bucket and take a sponge bath. I like the individual 1 gallong jusgs because you can put one on your roof in the mo...

Radical self reliance myth - moment of epiphany -no prophets
Let's drop the myth that we are self reliant while attending Burning Man. I was sitting by my humble tent when a mamoth RV pulled up next to me. A few days later, another vehicle arrived to service the behomoth motor vehicle. Nothing wrong with being prepared for harsh conditions. But to pretend tha...

I have never seen any. How much do they get each year and what do they spend it on. I think it is another BM urban myth and my guess is it goes for a party after all the BM's have left or that it goes for Larry's hoighty toighty meet and greet for BM vips.

There is only one solution. Install a trailer hitch and use a bike rack that inserts into the hitch. Every other bike I have tried has had the scratch problem - even an expensive bones. The hitches are cheaper than a new paint job and once you have one, you will use it over and over.

Not in my experience. why take a chance? the rebar pins at Lowes are cheap. It's not like you can run down to the store and get some in the middle of Burning Man. Bring some vice grips to get them out when you leave. Or just bury them which ever is easier.

You can't even protect yourself, much less the car.
Don't take the car. Your car is a work of art on wheels. After the burn, it will only be fit to be a mutant vehicle.

Forget the Marmot - buy a canvas Skybar - you won't regret it. I have brought the nylon tents in the past and every year, they have been torn apart by the winds, no mater how musch time and effort I take to secure them. The extra money you spend on an appropriate tent can make all the difference, as...
