Re: boil the microwave rice pouch
One of our campers lives off of pouched vegetarian food all week. Only heats them when he needs more of a comfort food kind of thing. He states it's super time efficient and not much volume of waste while shoveling with a spork.

Re: Sizing a Solar set up to meet the demand of a device?
If it is a MPPT charger it won't matter a huge amount but if the charger on the power bank is PWM then it is most important for the solar panel voltage to be matched to the battery bank. I would stick with panels that closely resemble what the manufacturer of the power pack recommends. I recommend p...

Generally the darker the color of the tarp the more light it blocks... also the more heat it will collect and radiate. In my experience white tarps don't add to darkening during the day time if that is a goal. Although I love Aluminet I think putting it over the top of your tarp will yield a small b...

Re: Longevity of flat top conduit structure
I've maybe replaced 4 pieces of 1" conduit on my shade structures in all the time I have been putting them up at the burn. I have 2 large conduit structures now and had my first conduit structure on the playa in 2013 or so. I've never replaced a coupling piece but I have lost some of the turn screws...

Re: Rotomolded coolers: any special tips?
I put a 5 day cooler inside a box made of 2" styrofoam insulating board with foil on the outside. Worked like a charm. Taped all the edges with foil tape and used the same tape to make the structural connections. The lid was the trickiest part to fit. Nice thing was there was extra room so I could p...

Use a ride on mower with a good engine and transmission. Mutate the hell out of it. Consider making the rear wheels duals to increase traction and flotation in light traction areas.

I'd say a material that is reflective like Aluminet. Get a big piece probably 30x30 with taped and sewn edges with grommets every 2' and 2 grommets at every corner 4" off the corner. Stake the it down over the 10x 20 using lag bolts, 3 links of chain and paracord. Then put 6 to 8 mostly inflated bea...

There still will be numerous camps that provide access to tools to do your own repairs if you don't have the right tools and assistance in doing so. It may be that many of the camps known for renting bikes will still continue to operate under the same name but not offer bike rentals.... Only help wi...

Re: Shade fabric HELP
I've ordered from Gothic Arches Greenhouses with much success. You definitely want Knit Shade Cloth as it does not unravel as far if it gets a hole in it. You want folded and taped edges and grommets every 2 feet as well as 2 grommets 4 inched from each corner. They are familiar with burners and oft...

Re: 2020 Direction on ePlaya
I'd like to see the lost and found moved to a different message board or some other technological solution implemented for joining people with their lost items. It seems to me one of the points where the wind got taken out of the sails on ePlaya was when lost and found was included and that it cause...

Re: Monday night or Tuesday morning arrival - challenges?
So there is a chance that parking spots won't be available at all on Monday night? I've never in 16 years of attending the event ever heard of someone leaving because they could not find a place to camp. You will be fine. Everyone finds a spot to park and camp. Consider arriving Sunday to have more...

Re: EMT Conduit Couplers
I use cyclone fence top rail to couple 1" EMT together. It works awesome with the EMT sliding in to it with ease but not much slop. I made both thumb screw and plain variety. The thumb screw ones are 24" and make it so I can extend the uprights of our bar from 7 to 10 feet with the addition of the c...

Replace your head light switch and the high low button switch on the floor. Make sure the contacts are relatively clean when reassembling. Switch is corroded leading to intermittent failure. The next mode of failure is head lights going out while you are driving. I successfully got one headlight to ...

I've recently converted to bolt down post holders for my camp fire extinguisher holders and fire lane markers. They hold a 4x4 in an upright sleeve and have 4 holes in the bottom plate where they can be lag bolted to the playa with 3/8 by 12" lag bolts.

Bought costco chest freezer for roughly 140 and a cooling thermostat off of amazon for maybe 30 bucks. Liked it so much I got a second setup for last year and hop...
