Re: 10 Yr Environmental Impact Statement (Includes Relating to Culture)

Here is some idle speculation - how is the BLM going to manage future lithium mining on the playa? https://www.seattletimes.com/business/a-war-is-brewing-over-lithium-mining-at-the-edge-of-death-valley/ The private land part of the playa by Gerlach has a lithium claim. If they start digging, all th...

Re: Organic Toilet Vendor Legit and OSS Approved?

Those stairs won't work at the event. Imagine the accidents! The existing toilets don't dump their product in a lake. It's also used as fertilizer. (I worked the porto potty project with Robbie Dobbs.) Yep! Straight on to alfalfa fields is what I heard. I've got to agree. The stairs would be the ne...

I want to know the last time BMORG surprised you in a positive direction.
When they added a second bank of portopotties on the radials and more in open and any in deep playa.

Re: The basic problem with modern BRC

Following up to my own post: if my calculations are correct, adding that extra 50 feet to the city depth adds roughly 1.683 million square feet to the available space. Probably a bit less for camping, since the shallower blocks mean the roads will take up a portion of that. I'd have to go do more d...

Re: The basic problem with modern BRC

Seen the latest city map? Open camping only on the outer 3 streets. BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :x I agree with that sentiment and I'm hopeful the deeper blocks closer in will concentrate the theme camps a little more so that there is more space for open camping. I really wonder why they just didn't a...

According to my memory UL listed propane devices that are unaltered do not need to be registered or inspected but must be used properly per MFG instructions.

Make your setup moop free, wind resistant and go for it!

Re: Returning Volunteer, wondering about perks

I doubt you will get a solid answer here and it's likely you shouldn't as it's very rare "perks" are mentioned on social media. If you have a contact within the department you are interested in .... Use it. If you enjoyed volunteering why not do it again and accept whatever perks you get as a nice s...

15 or so years ago, someone set up a large movie screen on the roof of a limo and towed a large trailer with movie theater seats set up on it. I don't recall the movies, but things like that were allowed in the old days. I remember that! Word on the street was they showed movies in the city but som...

Re: Help with 36'X30' EMT conduit flat top shade structure

I hang hammocks from a square tubing shade structure but it is where 2 independent structures meet and so there are twice the legs and horizontals there making a sturdy spine. I'd never hang a hammock from a 1" conduit shade framework.

Air travel is the only mode of transportation that helps dramatically relieve congestion on the highway. It's not going anywhere. (note that this is not directed at you, but a general rant) When you subsidize something you get more of it. In this case, more people attending the event with the expec...

Y'all are awesome! Reliance vs. Experience - that's gold right there. Sadly, the reliance part is what tickles me funny, and its not the providers, its the motives of the patrons. It may very well be one of those 'damned if you do, damned if you don't'' aspects of having such a broad and large popu...

If you are a real HLF you will be in demand on Playa. First of all I believe you should follow your own vision of bringing your gift to light. It's pretty common for the ORG to not say much at all before they release info or change the website information but when they do there is often a JRS email shortly after and many times a Journal publication too. Keep your ear to the ground around here and you will hear about it when the new ticket ...

Re: Feasibility of Window AC for RV?

I think ready to go and tested install materials/setup and then installing as soon as you get to playa is the way to go. Typical window AC units put quite a bit of torque on the window frame and driving with that torque present while going over bumps could end badly. I really like Yiggy's cut out me...

As others have said Burning Man is a Do-ocracy. I think a realistic place to start is you doing or making provisions for 80% of the beginning phases of the project. Once you prove it can work then think about on boarding funding and build help. There are some great collective things at Burning Man b...
