Re: 2020 Direction on ePlaya

I'd like to see the lost and found moved to a different message board or some other technological solution implemented for joining people with their lost items. It seems to me one of the points where the wind got taken out of the sails on ePlaya was when lost and found was included and that it cause...

Re: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

The Good: Set up, tear down and camp operations were the best yet. Very thankful for the dedicated and plentiful helping hands. The Bad: Several experienced long time camp members demonstrating optionality of 10 principles, leaving a burden on camp leaders and Consent/Boundaries stupidity. The Ugly:...

Go to the link and follow its links to find higher resolution images of BRC. Gives you an idea of how filled in BRC has become. https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=542&t=102325&p=1190932#p1190737 Population density is obviously increasing from the outer perimeter to the center. Re: Monday night or Tuesday morning arrival - challenges?

So there is a chance that parking spots won't be available at all on Monday night? I've never in 16 years of attending the event ever heard of someone leaving because they could not find a place to camp. You will be fine. Everyone finds a spot to park and camp. Consider arriving Sunday to have more...

Re: EMT Conduit Couplers

I use cyclone fence top rail to couple 1" EMT together. It works awesome with the EMT sliding in to it with ease but not much slop. I made both thumb screw and plain variety. The thumb screw ones are 24" and make it so I can extend the uprights of our bar from 7 to 10 feet with the addition of the c...

Re: Old Motorhome Issue - Any Idea What This Could Be?

Replace your head light switch and the high low button switch on the floor. Make sure the contacts are relatively clean when reassembling. Switch is corroded leading to intermittent failure. The next mode of failure is head lights going out while you are driving. I successfully got one headlight to ...

I've recently converted to bolt down post holders for my camp fire extinguisher holders and fire lane markers. They hold a 4x4 in an upright sleeve and have 4 holes in the bottom plate where they can be lag bolted to the playa with 3/8 by 12" lag bolts.

"WE power off from about midnight to 10 am and drinks stayed cold. We have the freezer hacked in to refrigerator with a cooling thermostat." This is curious to me. I was kind of running under the impression that we would need to run the thing 24/7. Do you have numbers on what your temperature loss ...

Re: Fridge or Chest Freezer

Bought costco chest freezer for roughly 140 and a cooling thermostat off of amazon for maybe 30 bucks. Saved as much on ice first year of operation and had 1/6 the grey water to deal with/get harassed when sprinkling clean cooler water out. Liked it so much I got a second setup for last year and hop...

Here is some idle speculation - how is the BLM going to manage future lithium mining on the playa? https://www.seattletimes.com/business/a-war-is-brewing-over-lithium-mining-at-the-edge-of-death-valley/ The private land part of the playa by Gerlach has a lithium claim. Re: Organic Toilet Vendor Legit and OSS Approved?

Those stairs won't work at the event. Imagine the accidents! The existing toilets don't dump their product in a lake. It's also used as fertilizer. (I worked the porto potty project with Robbie Dobbs.) Yep! Straight on to alfalfa fields is what I heard. I've got to agree. The stairs would be the ne...

I want to know the last time BMORG surprised you in a positive direction.
When they added a second bank of portopotties on the radials and more in open and any in deep playa.

Re: The basic problem with modern BRC

Following up to my own post: if my calculations are correct, adding that extra 50 feet to the city depth adds roughly 1.683 million square feet to the available space. Probably a bit less for camping, since the shallower blocks mean the roads will take up a portion of that. I'd have to go do more d...

Seen the latest city map? Open camping only on the outer 3 streets. BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :x I agree with that sentiment and I'm hopeful the deeper blocks closer in will concentrate the theme camps a little more so that there is more space for open camping. I really wonder why they just didn't a...

According to my memory UL listed propane devices that are unaltered do not need to be registered or inspected but must be used properly per MFG instructions.

Make your setup moop free, wind resistant and go for it!

I doubt you will get a solid answer here and it's likely you shouldn't as it's very rare "perks" are mentioned on social media. If you have a contact within the department you are interested in .... Re: Help with 36'X30' EMT conduit flat top shade structure

I hang hammocks from a square tubing shade structure but it is where 2 independent structures meet and so there are twice the legs and horizontals there making a sturdy spine. I'd never hang a hammock from a 1" conduit shade framework.

Air travel is the only mode of transportation that helps dramatically relieve congestion on the highway. It's not going anywhere. (note that this is not directed at you, but a general rant) When you subsidize something you get more of it. In this case, more people attending the event with the expec...
