Re: Advice for building things that shall be burnt

In my experience air flow is the key to a good burn and large timbers take a really long time to burn. Glue Laminated Beams are usually self extinguishing unless exposed to continuous fire. If heavy structural elements are needed consider making them in a box form with inlets for fire and air or out...

Re: Driving from PacNW

I've done this route at least 14 times both directions. It is a country road that has not been brought up to what one might call current engineering standards. It is narrow with no shoulders to speak of. Only pull off the road in improved areas. There will be decreasing radius turns, blind corners a...

Re: If you are driving from the Pacific Northwest a place to rest for free.

What a wonderful gift and thanks for providing it again!!! I've always just shown up and its been fine and I think this is how it goes normally. There is a loop road with pull throughs in the middle so pause after the gate to get your bearings a little and choose a spot to pull in and park. A quick ...

Re: Small group looking to join/organize a theme camp

BRCW&R is low total obligation and low in camp shared expenses. Were a repair camp so being a Handy Little Fucker is nice but not required. We mostly fix bikes but there is no repair we wont take on unless we know it's absolutely hopeless. My main goal with camp is having a good place for people...

Burners are really appreciative of repair camps. If you do this you will save/make many a burners burn and that's a really great gift. I am mayor of a repair camp so I am not looking to join up but I have a few recommendations. Bring an extra of every breakable vital tool you bring. 2 is 1 and 1 is ...

All my shade structures are steel and have not worn through any paracord yet attaching to the structure or the lag bolt chains.

Re: Ratchet straps or used climbing rope?

I use paracord on everything that I tie down. Some of my over zealous camp mates use ratchet straps that attach to the nice paracord loops I make that hook on to the lag bolt chains. :) I go through about a roll of paracord every 2 years most through shade expansion.

Re: Sizing a Solar set up to meet the demand of a device?

Here's a real world scenario for you. I ran an evaporator for a camp of 3 having minimal showers off of a Harbor Freight Solar panel setup. The only thing ran was a low amperage 12 volt DC bilge pump lifting water 4' to the top of the evaporator. It worked perfectly and the battery did not run out o...

Re: How to optimize plugging into camp power when parked

Can you divide your circuits outside the generator box so that your in camp circuits get unplugged from the on the move circuits and you tie in to camp power with an extension cord? Once you want to roll out you unplug the extension cord and then plug that back in to the main generator powered circu...

I was aware I was paying a premium but in the home stretch I needed a product with as much a guarantee of fitness I could get and that's why I chose the place with a huge amount of experience making custom shade. In the future I'm going to purchase the raw shade fabric and then have a local shade pl...

I've been to 14 consecutive burns and have not had anything stolen. I do lock up my bike and generator and stow away appealing things on the big burn nights. That being said unlocked bikes have been stolen right out of our bike racks before. Always lock your bike when not in use.

Re: Best thing you ever saw

I've got to agree that Uchronia was really spectacular. The scale was phenomenal and the construction technique was kinda iffy. The music was terrible but that was great in that it was more of an experience than say having the entire place filled with ravers. The lighting was phenomenal and the burn...

No pantyhose?

Didn't think of that. Do Pantyhose work well in high torque low rpm situations on notched pulleys?

They'll probably just add some portable security/pool safety fences to slow down and corral the runners so they can be caught with fewer people. It's about as much as can be done as a determined runner will eventually be able to bypass obstacles. The perimeter nearly caught the guy running around t...
