AntiM is correct: In the interests of privacy, Black Rock Rangers are asked not to discuss details of particular incidents in public forums. Serving as the Commun...

Wednesday night, starting at 10pm, the Playaflies went on a group "swarm". Leading the procession were the 20 or so "version 2.0" rigs that were indeed sequenced. So you weren't hallucinating, or at least not that part. I think there were nearly 40 of us in all, including the 1.0 rigs that just blin...

Scooters are motorized vehicles
I'd be all for categorizing motorized scooters/mopeds with other motorized vehicles, and requiring that they be registered transpo for handicapped people, or mutated enough to be considered art cars.

Re: extended stay at burning man?
ive . . . heard from many burners of their adventure to burning man and how they were at burning man for longer than just the 8 days of the event. Please keep in mind that the event only lasts 8 days. Before and after that, the piece of playa we call Black Rock City is home to a small group of hard...

There seem to be a lot of rumors surrounding population figures. The population numbers as of noon each day of the event are the basis of user fee payments to the BLM. As such, these official counts are not widely distributed. Peak population was the highest it's ever been this year. But it did not ...

I'll chime in again and encourage anyone who feels they were the victim of "price gouging" to report it to the org. Now is the time. All the various departments are busy putting together their post-burn reports. If service vendors were violating their contracts, that's information they need to know....

In fact there are a number of Rangers and Gate/Perimeter crew who voluntarily miss the Burn each year in order to be a watchful presence in BRC and at the exit gate while most people are out enjoying the spectacle of the Man burning. Alas, it's a BIG city. And most of these people are already wiped ...

Why? What is the reason behind not bringing bikes? Well, you won't be allowed to have your bike within the crowded sitting/standing only room ringing the burn. So you'll have to leave your bike somewhere outside the teeming circle of humanity. This makes it vulnerable to theft. This may make it har...

I was at the final policy announcement meeting at the BM office in San Francisco the first weekend of August. This is the official word: There will be no sign ups at the Info booth, nor will there be a vendor sign-up booth or station. The only way to get serviced is to see a truck and flag it down. ...

Just a quick shout out that the "black rock city" weather report on wunderground is actually the conditions reported at Lovelock, NV, which is about a hundred miles away(?) and at a different elevation than Black Rock City. So while that's a reasonable estimate of the weather on the playa, the playa...

meincoif, there are actually instances of people in trucks cruising through camps and taking bikes, generators, etc during the burn almost every year. Rangers and gate staff volunteer to work instead of witnessing the burn to try and prevent the worst of it, but there's just not enough volunteers to...

I've never tried to build one. But an off-the-shelf evaporative cooler unit made it possible for me to nap through the hottest part of the afternoon in my yurt structure last year. When I have the money to swap out the a/c in my new-to-me little rv for an evaporative cooler, I'm going to do it. That...

Why does anyone think it's easier to see over sitting people, if you're sitting? You might have just as much trouble seeing straight ahead through seated heads surrounding you as you might seeing through a standing crowd. But if the first several rows are seated, they should all be able to have a l...

One of the many reasons the Rangers prefer to have at least the first five rows around the man seated is that it creates a buffer zone in which people who may attempt to run into the fire before the structure has fallen will be more visible. The last thing I think anyone out there wants is for someo...

I think the big question is whether you will have things in your dome that would be permanently damaged by getting wet if it rains. If so, then you probably want to make sure the cover is water proof, just in case a storm rolls in while you're on the other side of Black Rock City. If not, then shade...

I buy enough Berocca to stockpile it on my infrequent trips to Australia. I find it's particularly effective as a hangover-helper. I've got a new find for playa food: hummus in a jar (no cooler required until the seal is broken). I found it at BevMo. I'm sure it can be found other places as well. Al...
