Besides covering the floor, cover the upholstered chairs inside with sheet and duct tape. As soon as we get to Pyramid Lake near BM, we cover all the windows we can with heavy paper, taping inside. Hang a sheet between the cab and back part to cut down on dust. Don't underestimate the playa dust! It...

My schedule, give or take considering I never know what time it is, playa time, and every day I may change my mind: Dawn to 07: Wake up early, go to JOTS, cook hot breakfast usually. (Once in great while go to Playa pancakes) Morning: Do some camp chores. Fill water bottles for day. Rotate ice bottl...

The unexpected: one of those wonderful burning man moments...someone gifts you something you needed without you even asking: 1. dust masks (thanks Canadian neighbor guy (brings it over when I'm struggling during dust storm and my scarf is falling down! Can't believe I forgot my masks with my asthma....

I'll be also flying my Gecko kite, cool! Come over any time. I'm going to be there at other random times we feel like opening our little bar during the day as well, so if you don't make it over at 4 p.m., chances are you'll see by the sign when we'll be back. Getting so ready for the burn now!!!!!!!...

Okay, our mini bar will be open for sure on Tuesday for Happy Hour , for the Writer's group (and anybody...who cares...it's BM) at 4:00. If you look up "Blue Bar" on the computers at Playa Info near Center Camp you can find the exact location. Can't tell you now as we're not a theme camp...just a li...

Look for Blue Bar on the playa. (Look up exact location at Playa Info) In fact, it'll be there for anyone who also feels like bartending for awhile. It's a little mini bar...blink and you might miss it.. As far as the Writer's group, I'll be there daily(usually!) around 4 for Happy Hour time. Any Ha...

Best gift: last year I'd been having problems with my asthma with all the duststorms at BM, this guy wandered into our camp holding a flask of ice cold pomegranate juice, and said, "I heard you were having some breathing problems? This is really good for it." It was the first and last time I saw him...

Love, Love, Love the poetry workshop idea. This summer I started writing Haiku as a break from the nonfiction I'd been writing for over the past two years. I'd written so much poetry over the years but never Haiku before...it made me very reflective, but in a way lightened me up from the nonfiction....

True, focusing on reading at BM could be challenging. I enjoy just talking to other writers myself and finding out what projects they're doing. Last year I put a few books out at Center Camp for people to write in and there were the most creative, cool entries. I still love looking through them. One...

ohmigod we are so not ready this year. Last year we were painting and making flags and buying stuff and then left early. This year, no theme camp, no leaving early, boo hoo. But, the flip side is, a lot less work. Still, it's creeping up all of a sudden and I'm realizing...what am I wearing for cost...

Remember that whenever you feel a bit overwhelmed, there's always a nice chill space somewhere you can go to rest in and get out of the heat. Center camp, even, where you can regroup and just people watch and make a new friend or two. Or get a cool drink. Or go back to your own camp and take a littl...

Writers group met last year for critique and reading of each other's work. I was too busy with our theme camp and couldn't participate but would like to form one this year. If another isn't already being planned (or maybe even if it is) I can host as we're having a bar set up on the playa. Could do ...

We will have our little playa bar set up out in the wasteland somewhere...so I'll make it up to you and give you a ...

I just discovered Tee Tree Oil...(okay, maybe everyone else already knows about it, but I didn't!) and I'm a nurse. Last year, spur of the moment, we walked over and joined the greeters on the first night. It was a really fun way to start the burn....atmosphere is so crazy and happy. People waiting in line were patient and just glad to get in, so it was fun to hug everybody and welcome them. i want to do it again.

My first mistake was in befriending a virgin burner who got kicked out of her camp; there was a reason. By the third day of having her eat our food (and never offer to help clean up), lounge around all day, and then make snide remarks to the women when the guys weren't around, it was just too much. ...

Steer Decorating .... Takes Real men of Genius !
This event requires a two-person team. One member stands ten feet from the chute gate holding the end of a 25 foot rope, which is looped around the steer's horns. The other team member stands 40 feet from the chute and has a 24 inch long ribbon. When the chute gate opens, the team must bring the ste...

We camped at Pyramid Lake last year, the night before we went in to BM. It's a great stopover place and you can swim in the lake. Not crowded at all when we were there. Just a few other campers on the Sunday night before regular BM entry. A few fire spinners which was fun and got us in the mood even...
