Re: Live webcam this year?
The well deserved snark stands on merit. When someone with two posts to their name comes to the board and calls folks jerks and generally out of their name, acts like he is gods gift of some grandeur, they get slapped down. I don't care if your solving world hunger or curing cancer, when you are ru...

Re: My Playa Shower
@Hoolie, just wanted to thank you for posting this great design. I bought all the parts today for my own 4' x 4' copy! Cool. I just checked it out on your other thread. Looks great. Finished. Nice one too. I like the orange fabric. Here is our camps shower and evap pond. We had 47 people in our cam...

Re: 2014 increase in foreigners?
I read on the Burning Blog that an influx of overseas visitors was a contributing factor in the Will Call fiasco: The contributing factors include the number of tickets that are sold electronically and require a check-in. Those include...the increasing number of tickets sold to international partici...

Nice. I can see with that setup that rainwater would be diverted to the low corners and drain well away from the tent.

basically that whole area didn't have a single 'theme camp', unless the theme was 'stay the fuck out' It would be funny if a big group of "outsiders" dressed up as medieval knights and attempted to "storm the castles." Or perhaps a mutant vehicle type confrontation: http://images4.static-blur...

The preponderance of fat tire bikes is mostly due to their recent shift from niche mountain bikes to mass-produced Wally bikes. The fat tire trend was spurred several years ago by companies like Surly, who makes great bikes, but a fully outfitted Surly fat tire bike was (and still is) around $1500 o...

Went to my first burn in 2000, but have returned only four times since then, so naturally I have spent several burns with Camp Envy in recent years. You guys are the best. The stream seems to be hit & miss at the moment, but it looks great when it's up. (Playa surface is looking a bit rough this yea...

I run this knot through grommets all the time. I prefer it because it's adjustable, but a bowline would be fine too, particularly if you have an adjustable knot at the other end.

Just to reiterate, a good knot is important for this shade setup. Here's the one I use:

The taut-line hitch. My entire camp is held down by this knot. It's also great for securing loads on your vehicle.

Re: My Playa Shower
OK. Here is my Playa shower. The bin at the bottom slides out to be emptied into the Evapotron. The ground supports are held on place with 14" lag bolts. Looks great, roundabout. I really wish mine had some color. Using materials on hand is cheaper and environmentally friendly, but it can limit you...

Re: Camping Table and Bike Question
If your monkey hut is East-West, the things inside are not super likely likely to move if they have any weight to them (the strongest wind comes from the SW, but technically can come from any direction) but it can't hurt to stake things if you have everything accessible that you need. I've never st...

Re: Simple Morning Shade for Small Backpacking Tent
Hoolie - How are the poles prevented from moving around? Are they partially underground (i.e. you dug a hole)? Sorry for the late response. The poles are not dug in. They are held in place simply by tension, from the guylines and from the tarp itself. This is why it's important to use strong stakes...

My bike porn is not very impressive, but I'm posting it to bump this thread. I built this bike out of spare parts, and it's been to the playa four times now. Re: Shade Considerations for Solo Camping via Burner Express
If you go for the minimalist setup, it's helpful to have a nice, breathable, wide-brimmed hat for when you're puttering about camp in the heat of the day.
