Final choice: marzipan
Thanks to all for your input - (esp the meringue, which I won't be using for the playa cake, but will be using for nummy cake coverings in the future - great idea!) - Even the ding dongs were considered ; - ) - After some goopy and greasy experimenting, I decided on thinly rolled eggless marzipan - ...

Playa "safe" cake covering?
Hi there, We are working on a big cake structure with some alcohol dispensers worked into it that will be sent down to the playa this year. All looks good in design land except that we are having a hard time finding information on high temperature cake coverings. I was wondering if anyone knows of h...

Laminate on playa = Success!
Hi there,
We ended up putting down a small laminate porch - Worked fine - need to get better stuff to put around the edges as frame next year, though - In fact, our camp,The Golden Cafe, will, if budget allows, be putting down a laminate dance floor this year : - )

Billboard vinyl suppliers
Hi there, In Seattle, we picked up billboard vinyl for free from Clear Channel. They do provide some of their vinyl for some local artist groups and such, but they still have more. We found their local head's contact info by just putting in a request on their website. Once we got the contact info, w...

re: testing
Definitely a good idea on the test - if we get a little more info and then our tools together this week, we may have a dry run at Critical Massive. To apx the temps, though, maybe need to set up some sort of heated space inside. - EB and PB PS Thx for the discussion all - It's been faster coming tha...

re: How thick is your lam?
Hi there, We'd like to go as cheap as possible, so probably the thinner pieces. We were thinking, with the playa being so concrete'ish, this would be alright. We've found some for $0.69 - $0.78/sq ft, like this: http://www.lumberliquidators.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=3321&source=FloorFinderRe...

re: more on the lam
So far, we've found information on minimum setup temps (64 F for 3 days) but not maximum. We are also not able to find, as of yet, details on the amount of room we would need to leave for expansion, in such high temps, or much on whether it would be needed to build more of a skeleton around the base...

Flooring question - to laminate or not to laminate?
This year, we would like to try to put some flooring in a bjurt we are building. We were thinking snap together laminate flooring might be a neat option - kind of swanky, and a neat surface out on playa. However, we weren't sure how it would hold up to the heat, expand, etc. Also, we are not sure wh...

Playafied signage
Hi there, I am making signage for my theme camp this year, 2 foam core ones inside and 1 large metal one outside. I'm a noob at this, and am wondering if anyone has any advice in regards to playafying the signs? The outside one needs to be attached to the outside of the dome. One inside one will be ...

Wireless at Burning Man
Hi there,
I heard from a lady that attended last year that there is wireless access available for burners to use. Is this true?
Thanks much!
