Anewbie with an rv...how do I figure out where to set up? Am I free to park where I want, or what? Is there parking outside the " city" ? Mucho thanks for the responses

first timer, here..im gonna try to be out in the suburbs, and I'm a little concerned about how hard it may be to find my way back to my rv at night? Should I be concerned? What can I do? Should I get a gps, maybe? Thx in advance to all replies
