Re: 2020 One thing a day for Burning Man
Approved the artwork for this year's patches! Went with a Schrodinger's cat theme for the multiverse. Also, the annual revamping of the spreadsheet lists and reviewing my "next year in BRC" list from last year of all the things I want to do differently, or the same, that I've forgotten about since t...

Re: Rotomolded coolers: any special tips?
Thanks for all the good replies. I am camping in a converted shuttle bus, and my cooler sits on the passenger seat. The windows are all covered with reflectix so it is out of the sun and off the ground. I guess I will continue my habit of wrapping it with a moving blanket, but it sounds like putting...

Rotomolded coolers: any special tips?
I decided to spring for one of the rotomolded coolers, a Yeti clone. With regular coolers, I have wrapped them in a blanket to help preserve the cold, and have lined them with a mylar space blanket. Is that necessary with a rotomolded cooler? I am sure it wouldn't hurt, but it's kind of a pain, so I...

We put both the bikes up on the stand today and did misc maintenance-- lubing the chain, adjusting the brakes, testing the EL wire, etc. Learned WAY more about adjusting persnickity v-brakes than I ever wanted to know.

Re: 2019 One Item A Day For Burning Man
Added little cans of v8 (me) and spicy v8 (him) to our drinks stash. Went up to Sacramento to see a shortie school bus that didn't turn out to be right for me. Called a guy about another shortie school bus and made an airplane reservation to go see it. It's a long shot to get it registered under CA ...

I've had good luck with a double layer of aluminet on my monkey hut. Good shade and very little wind load.

Re: Barbie Death Village Reno Hotel Deal 2019
Where can you park a larger vehicle (25 foot camper) at The Sands? When I was there last year I saw a small parking lot where I snagged a space, but this year (I hope) I will have a larger vehicle. [Realized I could answer my own question by looking at a satellite photo of The Sands, and discovered ...

Purchased and packed-- my 12 pack of 5-hour energy. Not that I go through that much, but it's good to have around. :-) Washed all the dishes, repacked into more compact storage (yay), bought and packed our decadent breakfast stuff-- oatmeal, dried cherries, pecan halves, evaporated milk. Might not s...

Approved the artwork for my patch order for 2019! They had to modify what I sent in, because the resolution was too high for an embroidered patch, and a woven patch was 2 times as expensive.

Made my "COUNTDOWN" checklist, which mostly enumerates all the different sets of batteries I need to charge.
Replacement solar panel delivered unexpectedly yesterday, 18 watt "keep the truck battery happy" with charger. So that's nice.

Today is Charge All the Things-- my tent and monkey hut lights, my usb power bricks, my impact driver batteries, my camera batteries, and probably something else I haven't thought of yet. Went through my light-up box and inventoried what I'd need for AA and AAA batts for the bike headlights, tail li...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Folks have had trouble with generators being stolen on-playa-- has anyone had their swamp cooler battery stolen? Or do you keep it in the tent and run the 12v wires out to the swamp cooler? I would hate to go to all the trouble and then have my battery disappear. :-/ The rope or plastic handles on t...

Stayed up way too late last night making my 2018 burning mix. Not a DJ, just putting a playlist together on my ipod to stay alert n awake on the drive to and fro. 10 hours plus of music, lots extra.

Re: What is your floor?
Floor of my aluminet monkey hut is a 15 x 30 foot heavy duty tarp, staked with "playa nails" through the grommets. I have a 5x8 carpet we put our chairs on in the front part, and a long carpet runner going back to the tent, helps take dust off our feet before we get to the bathmat inside the door. T...

Re: 2018 One item a day for BM list
Hardware store run last weekend, misc stuff including PVC spares for the monkey hut, just in case.
This weekend, demoop the truck bed-- we've been hauling compost and there's still bits of it in there. Not playa colored. Definitely moopy.

Re: Walls made of Shade Cloth?
I have used shade cloth walls on both Costco carports and EMT conduit shade structures. What I do is anchor them only at the top on the shade structure, and about half way up the nearest set of poles. I also make sure they are loosely anchored. So in strong wind they yield to the wind and flap aroun...

Re: 2018 One item a day for BM list
On Sunday, we set up the new bike stand and overhauled both the bikes. All the tires needed air, my bike needed a lot of tweaking of the rear brakes after someone crashed into it last year and bent my rear wheel a little. Not enough that I have to replace it, but enough so that getting a good brake ...

Re: 2018 One item a day for BM list
We pulled out the pair of 15 x 20 Aluminet tarps and tied them together on the 20 foot side, giving us a 30 x 20 foot shade layer for the monkey hut (at half the cost of a single huge piece). Then we threaded paracord all along the outer edges for bungee cording to the frame.
