Re: Kids in BRC
Took ours starting at 11 and 9 we've always had a blast, labelling the kids in case they get lost is a great idea, walking around with them and looking at stuff and talking about it is fun too, occasionally you may find something you don't want to explain but there always seems to be a "hey look at ...

sadly we wont be able to make it - settling down in NZ is taking way too much time and effort, and I've spent too long away from my job travelling the world on our way back home .... next year we'll come and I promise to bring art (whoever he is) However I have stayed at Rainbow Valley over new year...

Thanks - we'll try and make it - we might come a little late (Wed is our night to cook for our camp .... we'll either try and switch nights or show up with something to drink a little late). As I mentioned before we've changed our potluck to just "cocktails" on Thursday night - so show up and get sl...

How would it compare with last year's conditions? I think it wont be much different unless the wind really comes up. There is one difference - the surface at BRC really wasn't as 'wiped clean' this year as previous years - lots of old tire tracks - the playa really needs a few really good wet winte...

I was there over the past weekend - the BM site is pretty hard - there's a really soft patch maybe 5 miles north of it though

Playa report - (and now for something completely different) - here's the report I just wrote for our camp: Just got back from 3 days on the playa. Hi there everyone. The party at Taniwhas sounds like a plan, and the K place at the noticeboard for annnouncements. Re: The Great Divot
In case of a substantial rain, tow rigs could not enter the playa, The vehicles there would remain until the playa dried. Vehicles could be removed by helicopter, as has happened. It is conceivable that in the event of onset of an early and heavy winter, thousands of vehicles could remain until Jun...

Re: I've been to the black rock long before I ever attended.
I too have been going to the playa for years (before BM ever went there in fact). The playa has changed over the years - the 'serpents' (those annoying dunes that will rip the bottom out of your truck if you hit them at 90mph) have got much worse down wind of the current BM site - it's got worse eve...

Both - Aeropac, the local Tripoli prefecture, http://www.aeropac.org has 3 launches on the playa each year - you are welcome to come and watch, or fly (except on EX days) though we'll hit you up for BLM fees (same place part of your burn ticket goes)spectabillis wrote:Are you a member of NAR or Tripoli?

Jeez are you're rockets that big, that you need clearance from the FAA? yes .... http://www.taniwha.com/br.jpg most are a lot smaller though - we regularly fly up through normal FAA controlled airspace and have occasionally approached 100k ft (20 miles). yes - we use them on the playa to talk to the FAA when we fly rockets (not during the burn of course) - they are expensive but not incredibly so - dollars per minute I think, not tens of dollars (but I don't pay the bills so don't quote me)Last Real Burner wrote:Has anybody used one of those satellite phones?

Re: Traffic leaving brc?
It really depends - there's sort of 2 issues - getting off of the playa - basicly lots of people are trying to leave and there's a one lane road at the end of it - we've found that leaving really early that morning isn't a problem - later can be (others can speak to how much later). Secondly it's a ...
