Boulder/Denver: FREE EL wire stuff (a bunch)
I've got a bunch of wire, drivers & sequencer type stuff available for free pickup in Boulder. No shipping, pick up only, just need to bring a box. (starting my spring cleaning early!)

scheduled astro night in '08?
How about a community-organized (that's US!) astronomy meet & education session in the deep playa in '08? If we decided on a night & time (with an alternate to account for weather), we could get listed as an event in the guide, get together and show anyone who showed up some cool stuff. Those of us ...

This sounds like a neat idea, but I am not sure fine optics and playa dust are really compatible. In a cleaner environment than the playa, I have done what you suggest, and as careful as we are it is amazing how much dust we collect. I just cannot imagine taking my scope out there. Now on the flip ...

Being a fan of "Sidewalk Astronomy: education (and having an astro degree), I've contemplated bringing a scope out during various years. If I found a cheap enough 8" or so on ebay, I might even buy it just for use in hostile conditions, and the pleasure of showing people (CITY people, mostly) what t...

Would that have been cool in the context of the argument that it wasn't a safety issue because nobody was hurt? That's how HUNTER FUCKIN THOMPSON would do it, right? He didn't set fires, he used machine guns. What was Addis thinking? While Hunter might hve done so, he would also had a reasoned resp...

Machine guns arent illegal either. You just have to have the requisite paperwork to own. Granted. I only used the example as a reference point because in the earlier, more chatotic days of BM (prior to my arrival in '97), there were such things as "drive by shooting ranges", and in off-event sites ...

[quote="ZaphodBurner"]Hey, guys. There are laws against both arson and discharge of firearms, so if one isn't a safety problem because nobody gets hurt, what about the other? What if instead of burning the man, he had opened fire on it? Or what if I smuggled in a semiautomatic rifle, got really drun...

punishing this guy seems like a moot point... 1 year (3 months served with good behavior) is enough to make anyone like him rethink his attitude and it sets an example for others. (obviously he is a punk and not much else) A fine equal to the price of the man is reasonable, and 3 years or more of p...

also CDS-topher: Your remarks about support for a felon strike me as a little off center. Can you clarify? You hinted in your previous post sympathy for those who break laws (felons) perhaps.. its relevant because you say people were at serious risk, yet you cant back that up. If you need remedial English lessons let me know, I'll do what I can. Otherwise, refer to paragraph 1, four posts up, where I explicityly explain why people were at "serious risk". Otherwise, I think I might refrai...

no my mind isnt made up in that ultimate sense, but i still dont think it was dangerous as most are playing it up to be. Were you there, physically, watching? I was. OK, so I'll admit admit to having served some unspecified amount of time in a county jail long prior to my first ever BM attendance (1997 - ten years, *twelve* burns, since I was an eyewitness this year's st!). And in light of this conversation, I've been doing some thinking. We put kids in jail for...
