No worries, AntiM. I know it. :D If it were any way feasible, I'd probably wear my work gloves all week. But gloves + porta-potties... yeah, no.

I have work gloves...won't build or breakdown without them. The problem is that the playa just weakens my nails big time. So, even just during things during the week, they break and tear like crazy. I was hoping to avoid that this year and additionally not have to cut them down to the quick.

Gel manicures on the playa?

I wore nail polish to my first burn, six years ago. The playa + nail polish = something so gross that I didn't even wait until getting home to remove the polish. Every year since then, I just bite the bullet and cut my nails super short and forgo the polish. This year though, I discovered gel manicu...

I would also avoid Paypal. They have recently frozen our camp account without giving us any clear cut reason why nor any clear cut way to fix it. I would probably opt for personal checks or cash if possible.

Ah, the joys of theme camp management.... You've received some good advice so far and I just want to reiterate a point that has already been made. Keep it simple and start small. As you sit in the comfort of your living room, it's REALLY easy to get carried away. The first year of a theme camp is ve...

Deviant Playground is seeking new members for 2011!

2011 will be our fifth year on the playa as Deviant Playground and we're looking for some new blood to join us this year. We're a very organized and tight knit group of folks spanning the country who re-live our childhoods every August. We do this via a number of ways... a lemonade stand/bar, our li...

We were in the 9:00 portal two years and on A last year. The problem with A streets is that the lot sizes are two small for what we need. We have a large playground and the frontages for A streets are only 50 feet. We've requested portal placement again the past two years but haven't gotten it. And ...

Thank you for your thoughts Eric! And yes, wanting it and getting it are two different things. I just want to make sure we're ready for it should we apply for it and get it. Even this year at 3:15 and F, I thought we saw the not-so-nice cross-section of burners but it's probably nothing compared to ...

Esplanade placement for 2011

We're thinking about applying for Esplanade next year and I'd like to hear from camp/campers who've stayed there. We've discussing the pros and cons but I'd like to hear from folks who've been there and done that.

Anything you can share would be helpful. Thank you! :D

Many of our douche-tard experiences were pee-related... We have a camp-only porto. The person responsible for the locks forgot them so it was a day or two before an incoming camp member could bring them. A single porto in reserved theme camp space is clearly NOT for public use but people used it any...

We do a lot of burner house parties and underage drinkers are always a concern. If you're bringing someone under 21, you have to check with the host first and if they say it's okay, that person is your responsibility. We've had underage folks show up before and we generally watch them until they lea...

We had a good location (A & 4:30) but we didn't have NEARLY enough space. Most of my campers (there were 24 of us) had to park their cars elsewhere. Tents were packed in pretty tight and unfortunately, our porta-potty and kitchen had to be close together. Our playground equipment was way too close t...

We got our early passes as well... a whopping THREE instead of the 15 we asked for. I truly do not know how three people are supposed to set up an entire theme camp before the event opens. Three of us do not alone carry all of our infrastructure.
