Sorry for my laziness. I just thought I would ask here and add my compliments. Thanks for the spelling correction and point in the right direction.

A personal postscript...

If the couple who told me they named their daughter "Xara" will send me a private message with some contact info, I have something I would like to give to our little princess.

I was thrilled by the Cubitron, the cube with the grid of color-changing ping pong balls. None of the art that was registered in the last weeks of the registration period has been updated on the website yet, does anybody know who created that marvel or how to get in touch with them? I stood there wa...

gosh... I hope this is beside the point. Whatever anyone thinks of how anyone else makes their living in the outside world, what I saw was more than 40 people put in 3 straight 16 hour workdays, plus about 8 hours on two other days, plus mount a two hour show and a twelve hour party, all at Burning ...

I haven't personally travelled the health department road, but my understanding is that food distribution is not forbidden, it only takes some kind of license or permit. That imposes certain sanitary conditions for storing and handling food. Those conditions are not unreasonable, and depend on the k...

For what's it's worth... I'm not a drinker and didn't personally visit Spike's, but the nice people who hosted it might be pleased to know that the talk around town reminded me of the buzz about this little place called "Pinky's" circa 2002. It's a tough town to stand out in, and you kids did it. Mark

I just wanted to post my personal thanks to the people who hosted this project. Aside from its quirky unexpectedness, it allowed me to make a surprise phone call to someone that came just at the right time. No, I assure you, it had nothing to do with business. It was just a very nice thing and I wan...

XARA IS DEAD! LONG LIVE XARA!

Smohq my friend, you just wrote our epitaph. Thank you.

Mark

Xara yet is still to come, yet Xara here remains.

Some flowers just make ornery drunks, you know? To Smohq, Right you are, we're not retiring - except from the playa. Dulzura is our new home and we will be back there next April. We expect to be a number of places this next year, putting our efforts into regional events. None of us are any less eage...

Fear not my friends, the cranky flower is one of our own, though amusingly, it could be one of a number of our own. Boy, you buy 'em books, you send 'em to school, you hook 'em up with your Miracle Grow connections and what do they do? They turn on ya. Now, where did I leave that emergency supply of...

No. Not at all. If the vehicle does not get licensed by the DMV BUT has been given a pre-approval AND is a primary transport vehicle then it sits parked at the camp as any other vehicle is exp[ected to stay throughout the event. Wow, that raises a funny image of this whole thing blowing up in the o...

My wife and I have a really nice, queen-sized folding camp bed that takes an air mattress. Last year, we set the whole thing up, got on opposite ends, grabbed our ac powered air pump, and went carrying our bed down the Esplanade looking for alternating currest to fill it up. It was kind of fun perfo...

Every day this project grows bigger and better with new elements being added by all of you. But it is looking like the lighting on the stage will presently be a bit underwhelming, and far be it from us to leave people less than fully "whelmed." Anyway, we could use a bit of help with the loan of lig...

"Just because something evokes a feeling does NOT make it art. Did it evoke a feeling when they cut off Nick Berg's head? So was that art?" I would respectfully disagree that this is EXACTLY what art is. An arrangement of sign stimuli that creates an impact by invoking inherited psychological reacti...

Okeedokee, the deets about our farewell show are up in their own thread. Check it out at http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?t=5240

Xara and The Mutaytor present: "The Ascension Of The Man" Our Supernova Farewell Performance Black Rock City, Nevada, Burn Night, 2004 One hour after Manfall, within a circle of stars... Six years ago, Xara and the Mutaytor were born together at Burning Man. And now, the green jungles of Xara and t...

I'm fine with any kind of consistent, discernible safety standards they want to impose. But it feels like in order to just reduce the sheer number of vehicles, a new and subjective standard has been imposed - AND that standard is based on the evaluation of art. The thing that attracted me to Burning...

Thanks for asking, by the way. And thank you guys for sharing the nice memories; it's what makes it all worthwhile. - Mark

Just a gentle reminder that the deadline to register for this retreat at the early discount rate is March 15, 2004. Registration is by mail order only and there will be no onsite registration. We are overwhelmed with the response so far to this year's edition of Xara Dulzura, and can't wait for you ...

From Friday through Sunday at the end of April, we will take the whole private and cozy valley of the Madre Grande Monastery grounds as our world within a world - our imaginary future paradise - our Xara - as it celebrates an imaginary future festival, the "Floralia." The oaks and hills and stones a...

The Xaraproject is presenting its second annual Creative Mythology Festival, "Xara Dulzura," from April 23rd to the 25th, at Madre Grande Monastery in Dulzura, in Southeastern San Diego County. Proceeds from this retreat will go to the monastery, the Black Rock Arts Foundation, and fundraise for Xar...

The following miraculous news came in this morning. SD Decom is back on with much, much more to celebrate - and fewer fire safety issues. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This morning I was able to get through to my house for the first time. The fire b...

The following was issued this morning: "Please forward to all pertinent lists. Due to the devastating fires that have roared through the east parts of San Diego County, the property where Decompression was to be located has burned. A dear friend's home and property have been destroyed. We, as a comm...

Maybe this is more like art, but it's definitely a community service. I'm thinking about those consumable resources - like film for instance - where it is sometimes hard to pace oneself to be sure to have enough - film - for Burn Night. I think it would be very nice if someone set up a time release ...

I confess: I LOVE psytrance! Yes, I'm too old for this. No, not everybody else loves psytrance. Yes, there is too much poor trance at Burning Man. Yes, late night music can disrupt some people's sleep. Nevertheless, I plead guilty to being a major purveyor of psytrance at Burning Man 2003. Not only ...

Wow, this is my favorite thread on the eplaya! On behalf of the madcap band of screwballs who present Xara, thank all of you so much for your kind words and compliments. Don't take me too seriously when I wring my hands and worry about next year. We're just all terribly tired and utterly broke and -...

I don't know anything whatsoever about villages. I don't know very much about anything else either. But I can speak from Xara's experience. We have always been a camp and never a village. I do think we represent one extreme range of the spectrum of models in that we do produce One Big Thing, with lo...
