in general, a mountain bike or cruiser is best for the playa- anything with a tire larger than 1.5" in width. Anything else you are asking for trouble unless you are up for a real challenge and have amazing bike handling skills. A newish road bike will not have reliable clearance for CX or hybrid ti...

I've had my share of bike repair on the playa at ByB for the last couple of years. We are taking a break this year due to the Radical Self Entitlement issues we have increasingly experienced. By all means if you want to carry the torch I encourage you and will dole out advice, but I'm taking a year ...

if you never ride a bike, any bike seat will kill your ass. Break in your ass before you head out to BRC. ride a couple of miles a day for 3 or 4 days now so when you are at BM your ass isn't surprised and has built up some callouses over your sit bones.

gotta go for a ride.

Bike Repair camps....? None as far as we know.......

If you haven't heard or discovered yet, there will NOT be any public bike repair on the playa this year. ByB threw in the towel after 2006, Johnny and the Playa Cruisers gave up in 2005. The main guy at the Bike Guild near Center camp has been in Eastern Europe for some time now so we can't confirm ...

If you are buying your bike local (ie in Michigan) and $20 is the average well great. In the bay area and Reno, $20 will not find you a reliable bike. There will be 20,000 people looking for the same thing. The ideal bike for the playa- is a one speed coaster brake cruiser or singlespeed converted m...

I would try www.blackrockbicycles.com in Reno. Larry is a burner and usually has 200+ bikes for rental. He doesn;t offer drop to camp service but it's better than nothing.

shawn marie- where are you travelling from? Maybe there's someone local doing a bike or cargo shuttle run. A minivan with 5 bikes and 5 passengers and 5 passengers worth of stuff is going to be pretty tight. A larger van might be more useful, like a 15 passneger church van or one of those new dodge ...

Here's a quick quote from fedex to ship a bike in 5 days across the country. http://www.fedex.com/ratefinder/standalone?method=goToResultSummaryPage it's about $50. A cheap hollywood bike rack (the F1-B) costs $50-60. and holds 3 bikes. Maybe a local LBS wouldn't mind making some money 'renting' one...

ByB repair camp will be doing things a little differently this year. It would be a VERY GOOD IDEA to MAKE SURE YOUR BIKE is 100% mechanically functional prior to taking it to BRC in August, ie not having to rely on a bunch of drunx at the playa to get your bike playa ready. You wouldn't want to be s...

yeah- there's plenty of guys who are interested in getting shaved, and a few ladies who want to watch, but it's hard to find someone to actually do the logistics beyond theme camp registration.

Theme Camp Idea released tothe public commons

Anyone can get their feet washed with a neutralizing vinegar solution, thanks to the Clampers and other canps. Ladies can get their Poonani trimmed. Men are not allowed to be present. You can get your entire carcass washed. Co-ed- even the frat boys get in on the action. You cen even get a full on J...
