Is Skinny Kitty gonna be around again this year (sorry, too lazy to navigate to another page to check) and if so will there be a homebrew tasting going on? A few months ago I had plans to bring out 20 or 30 gallons of homebrew, but alas I had a dome and tall bike to finish and [accidentally] drank m...

I'm really excited to go I 80 just so I can see the Bonneville Salt Flats. Such a huge open space of nothingness really appeals to me for some reason. Plus I've gotta haul ass to get back to Georgia so the interstate is the way to go for me. We'll be stopping in Denver as well. Look for the Dusty as...

yup, seems to be true. The shits really hit the fan for tfus. I'll still be there though. It should be a good time regardless of whether or not it's an 'official' burn. I am still a little bummed that it is 21+ now. I feel like that might have been on of the biggest reasons that the 'official' statu...

Just a heads up while we are talking about gasoline, don't forget to buy (if you don't have one already) a locking gas cap for your vehicle while on the Playa and you might want to consider locking up your spare gas cans as well. Over the past couple years, we have caught people trying to steal gas...

Mythbusters proved that drafting does work. They were able to boost economy by ~40%. The problem was that to get that you had to be 10 feet behind the big rig, which is rather unsafe. But even at 100 feet you do get some benefit. I watched this episode over the weekend. I was amazed that even at 10...

I say just fly with it. Last year myself and another friend flew from Atlanta to SFO with all our stuff. We each had a carryon, then we both checked a cooler (that was stuffed w/ camping supplies...really anything that would fit) and a giant duffel bag. Using the coolers as suitcases works great. Ju...

try finding some used billboard vinyl. it's like a really thick and giant tarp. I emailed a handful of the local outdoor advertising companies in my area and got positive responses from several of them. One of them gave me (as in free) two tarps that i think measure 14' x 48'. Even if they don't giv...

used billboard vinyl is your best bet i think. It will require some creative cutting to cover a dome that big, but its cheap (or free). Google "Outdoor Advertising" for whatever area you are in and start sending out emails asking very nicely what they do w/ their used vinyls. I sent out 5 or 6 email...

I'm going to be using billboard vinyl for my dome this year. My current plan is to cut the vinyl into triangle shapes and put grommets around the edges so that 6 different triangle pieces of vinyl can be attached separately. Then I'll just use some clear packing tape to cover the seam. keeps it [rel...

[quote="Teo del Fuego"]I would go for a dust-proof enclosure. I have seen threads somewhere on how to wrap the dome with several pieces to do this. I personally have experienced billboard vinyl covered domes and they were significantly cooler than other structures and after the dust storms last year...

Another dome covering question/thread
So heres the deal. I've got plenty of used billboard vinyl to use to make a covering for a 3v 5/8 24' diameter dome. I can't decide which direction to go for the cover though. Do I focus on simply providing the best shade possible, or do I make a cover that is as wind/dust/rain proof as possible? Th...

Lip balm on a string tied to your hydration pack or worn around your neck. You will use it more often than if you have to dig for it. I'm going to second AntiM on this one. I kept a chapstick key chain (found at REI i think) attached to my camelbak the entire week. Now i keep that same chapstick on...
