does anyone know about having holding tanks emptied from RV's? I"m wondering.........hopefully won't need it, but.....(pun?)........ As far as I've seen you just need to flag the trucks down that empty your holding tanks. They'll also fill you potable water. There is a fee involved... but we never ...

The title of the post made me thing y'all were going to play "keymaster" for the event. Sounds like a valuable service for those of us that generally leave our cars unlocked and tend to lose our keys. Then again, accidentally locking the car and having to get to the other side of the playa to get yo...

I haven't seen anyone do a suspension at Burning Man... but I'd assume it's been done before. The practice has been gaining popularity and there have been some recent stories about it on Discovery Channel or National Geographic. Though the idea of suspending myself by a couple of hooks sounds pretty...

It's a bit late to be jumping into a theme camp as most of them have been working on projects together for months. You're more than welcome to walk up to any camp and offer assistance if you've got the inclination. Since you've got all your equipment I suggest finding an empty space and setting up s...

Hey there aserendipitous one. There will be lots of art cars and buses out there for you to choose from. It's usually best to walk up to a stopped vehicle and check with the driver as to their destination and whatnot. The larger vehicles are usually easier to bum rides from... but don't count on get...

It kinda sucks that mutant vehicles get judged at all. Any other (non-funded, non-theme) piece of art you bring out there isn't subject to aesthetic judgement. I'm willing to accept safety analysis of vehicles, fire art, etc. But to deny someone's exhibition of their art because it isn't "amazing" e...

Yeah! Vinyl rules, CDs drool!! Why do I have such a hard time getting into music being spun on CD? Am I as bad as those folks dissing on DJs in general? Just one step behind? Before Nervous Nelly and the Safety Patrol show up I'd just like to say that placing art on the playa is not a right granted only to the well-prepared pre-planners. The only problems you'll encounter are when you drive the truck off the ring roads and out onto the open playa. Of course whoever cares...

Keep an eye on www.craigslist.org and check the RV section. Most are for sale, but I've seen rentals in there as well. You might also try the Sacramento, Tahoe/Reno craigslist pages as well and pick up the RV on the way.

My preferred method of using the ipod in camp is to use one of those RF (radio frequency) adapters and a boombox. This way you can keep the ipod in a vehicle or somewhere else safe and relatively dust free. You also eliminate the need for any power except batteries... until you need to charge your i...

I don't know what this candy-caning has to do with preventing its future use. We've been using the same candy cane rebar since '02. We always have stuff to stake down. We built a PVC dome in 2002 and used a parachute that was too small to come all the way down to the ground. It ended up being the best mistake we could have made! The parachute didn't catch as much wind since it was more like a yarmulke on the dome. The wind was also free to pass through the space a...

I'm surprised to read so many posts (here and in other threads) that include threats of sabotage against sound systems. My humble recommendations Don't buy drugs on the playa! They're overpriced and generally low quality ('cause they're from SF, zing!). The LE presence and lack of privacy also increases your chances of getting busted (bad) and giving the event a bad rap (badder). If you're an experienced user you sho...
