By the way, this has nothing to do with Paul Addis. I am talking about someone who has given me physical violence off the playa. Sure, BM is not about "me". But am I required to include this person, even if I am scared of them and don't like them? Do "we" the group, include and welcome people who......

Radical Inclusion: Should we include harmful people?

"Radical Inclusion: Anyone may be a part of Burning Man. We welcome and respect the stranger. No prerequisites exist for participation in our community. " Are we required to include known criminals? Are we required to include people who have personally hurt us? Are we required to include people who ...

Didn't go. It sounds like whoever was organising it should have communicated that 'interactive' stuff is what people want. But then would that be dictating what other people bring as their BM contribution? Maybe if those same exhibitors came back next year they'd have a much better ideo of what BM i...

We may be an alternative society (that's debateable given the huge amount of garbage generated at BM, the fact that poor people can't go because ticket prices are so high, etc) but we are also supposed to be "radically inclusive". So the redneck patriots should be welcome at BM too, right? I will no...

Re: Lack of Imagination

So I propose we all submit entires for the Alternative theme to Burning Man 2008. Are we sheepish followers or are we radical participants Very interesting idea, and one that I think is much more BM. We've had a theme given to us from 'on high' for many years. Maybe time to open that up. In the cas...

And let me add, that while people have been saying for 10 years "it's not like it used to be"

the real freshness and new life is appearing in the regional events now, not BM itself.

Maybe this theme was chosen to reduce the attendance next year. Or, it could have been chosen to INCREASE attendance. Perhaps Larry wants to increase the numbers of conservative people (for want of a better term) that attend, so that BM is more inclusive. If numbers did drop by "lefty 'merica hater...

Sorry, but I guess the only way to make any progress is to be honest, and that's how I feel. Very disappointed. That's cool, and I appreciate the constructive tone with which you offered your opinion, but I wonder if you've read the actual statement yet: "Ranging from Canada to Chad, from Brazil to...

As a burner from another country, my initial response to "the American Dream" was a real sense of alienation. Like this burn isn't for us, in spite of the token (and ugly) flags on a high rise building idea. 90% of my friends who've been discussing it also felt a sense of revulsion. Yes, there will ...

I don't know that BM could do that [shut down] because they have this infrastructure in place in which they have to pay rent, salaries, health care, etc. I think it'd be kinda hard to put the brakes on that for a year and then try to start things up from where you left it at the point of shutdown. ...

I just hope that the people who are still reporting and filming it won't misrepresent it. I'm not particularly worried about misreporting. To be honest, there are very few reports on ANYthing that aren't misreported. It's the nature of daily news reporting, imo. Maybe research articles are differen...

as a noob, who's heavily involved in one of the regionals, i hope to get to the Nevada burn before it jumps the shark.

People were saying that years ago, but i do think things have a natural life before they go bad.

Orangepeel, much as i love the DJ in particular you're pimping - spamming several threads with this is a little... er... over the top.

Now, forget about DJs in this thread... most of them play other people's music. What about the BANDS?

Re: Famous bands that have played at BM?

Are there any well-known bands that have played at the burn? I am thinking bands that would be internationally known outside the US, not just your favourite band from Fuddville, Iowa. There is a reason for this question, which i may elaborate on later. Okay- You're the bass player from Blue Oyster ...

Exactly. Famous DJs or other performers don't advertise themselves at BM, and neither should bands. That's why I'm curious... I'm imagining Metallica, or Madonna, or Coldplay or Depeche Mode playing there. Hothouse Flowers are an international name (I'm from New Zealand, so haven't heard of any of t...

Baby Seal Club? They're from Fuddville aren't they? ;) Well, some famous DJs (eg Paul Oakenfold, Tiesto) have played Burning Man, I wondered if famous bands had too. And i don't think it need change attitudes to spectatorism any more than any other sound camp does. The band would be there to give (f...
