Re: Renting a large generator for a village?

By pro-active I mean the first step is to talk with the camp people first. They may not have thought it out all the way. They perhaps just thought that the generator being on the street edge would be ok, not thinking about all of us on the other side. Then, if that did not work, we would have to hav...

Re: Renting a large generator for a village?

Last year we were across the street from a block full of RV's and they had a HUGE generator. It was on the street directly across from us, to their backs, and was on 24/7. I have no issue with these giant generators, but if you want one, put it in the middle of your camp. Be aware of your neighbors....

Re: Baby at BM, experience? preparation? what? where?

The thought of missing Burning Man is difficult.... The thought of bringing this little baby out there with so little support system is MUCH worse!! The damage to those little lungs could scar this baby for life, causing various breathing difficulties that are difficult or impossible to cure. When o...

I have both the Springbar and the Kodiak tents. They are extremely similar in material and style. The Springbar, however, is superior in keeping the dust out and seems a bit better made than the Kodiak. It is also made in the U.S., which counts for me. The Kodiak developed a sticky zipper first time...

I am wondering about needle holes in shelters.... Not a good idea if it rains. The grip clips I mentioned before are expensive, but really really good. Those are what we used on that arch in front of center camp cafe last year to hold material together. The small size is ok for holding the lights, b...

I have purchased both Kodiak and Springbar tents. Both have been to the Playa. Both are good tents, but in my book, Springbar is superior to Kodiak. Last year I left Burning Man Tuesday night after the event. I wanted to leave by noon, but tremendous white-out high winds kept me from taking down the...

In my opinion, the concept is really very simple. Radical self reliance.
It means bringing what you need, and taking care of yourself on the Playa.
It means carrying out your own f'ing trash and being grown-up about it.
We are lucky to have port-a-potties and ice.....

I agree. I have two parachutes. My son uses one to cover his dome and that it a pretty good use for it. This year for the first time, we actually used the other parachute to cover our courtyard area between the tents and the costco carports. It was ok, but so many better alternatives available. Don'...

This is probably not that helpful to you, but we bought Springbar for last year and loved it! You can stand up in it and the only dust in it was what was brought in by feet. May be too pricey, and may be too heavy for you depending on what kind of vehicle you are bringing up..... But it is a really ...

Don't know of anyone who has gotten sick from the water, but last year a guy slipped in the mud behind the truck and broke his leg right near our camp. Early in the week, too. Poor guy. It is always possible to catch some germ-y disease from this kind of thing, but if you are not swallowing the wate...

One idea would be to go to a thrift store and find a coat that you like to use as a base, then sew the animals to that. You could cut the sleeves off if you dont want them, or alter them with strips of material, or cut them into fine strips. or use fabric paint to embellish...
