I have forgotten the name, but there is a website that rates charitable organizations. However, it seemed to deal with only the major ones. (I used it when I was looking for an organization to donate to after the tsunnami). It WOULD be nice to be able to donate money directly to a village, family, ...

*sigh* Let me say it again for those who missed it: I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE. And we still intend to help children in Iraq, and eventually everywhere. This all came about because I wanted to help, and had a goal I wanted to acheive, but without going there, the goal wasn't a feesible one. This made my...

After much discussion and consideration, our plans have changed significantly. Because we can't set up a successful charity in a country we aren't in, and because so many people seem horribly opposed to the fact of us helping foreign children, we've found what we hope is a better approach. We are go...

Shyshdy, Now you have heard a sample of the responses that you will continue to get as you proceed with your project. Your best use of this board is to learn what to expect as you go so that you can be prepared for it, and adjust your plan accordingly. I think that most of us have a visceral need t...

You know, I was very excited about the responses here at first, and then they got a little too political & argumentative for me. Thanks all for the advice & opinions, I'll keep it in mind. As far as us being unprepared-we're well aware of that, and this whole idea came up for the first time yesterda...

Get an attorney and form a 501c3 Non-Profit organization. If your plan is a good one, you should be able to get an attorney to do this pro-bono. Please check this out with the State Department first or at least do the homework to make sure you really are going to be an asset and not a liability. I ...

Anyone know how to? And for that matter, anyone want in? Several hundred friends and I are going on a mission to [downer alert] help mentally disabled children in Iraq.

Thank you all again for your help! The biggest problem currently is that I have NO idea what I'm looking for, as I've never owned a tent or been to burningman, but I want something kinda kick ass for 3-6 people to live in comfortably, and money is tight if we plan to have the right amounts of food w...

Shelter for first timers.....
Hello, myself & 2 friends are going for the first time this year, and proper shelter is our first concern. I've found this http://www.nizamcanvas.com/tentmarket/sudan.htm tent online, but an experienced burner told me she would not pay that price for it, and that she didn't know if it would be adequ...
