Re: It's a little hypocritical, isn't it?
...and it has never been entirely clear to me what the person hoped to accomplish by the act other than childish shock value. Well done! You admit you don't understand and yet you judge - in the same sentence! ...and I'm the one being judgmental? OK. I thought what I was saying was pretty clear, bu...

Re: It's a little hypocritical, isn't it?
Is it me, or is it more than a little hypocritical that we are not free to do whatever we want with the "symbol of freedom?" I don't hear many people here saying that you shouldn't be free to burn a flag. I hear them say that it would be a cliche, pointless and usually stupid thing to do. I've seen...

There's also the walk-in area for those who want a little distance between them and the Rest of the World. Also, as an example, I sleep just fine with noise (sleeping through falling out of bed and fire engines coming to my house) so it would be a mistake to project your own needs on everyone. Ther...

Going to BM for quiet is like going for a swim in the ocean and expecting to stay dry. If you don't like noise, don't go. Easy. Easy enough advice to follow. In fact i don't think I have ever met a person who went to Burning Man specifically for the quiet. On the other hand, I have met lots of peop...

If you can have faith that the post man will deliver your mail, why can't u have faith in a God u can't see. I think you are comparing two concepts that differ wildly while, due to the ambiguity of language, sharing the same word ("faith"). The first is a prediction that something will happen based...

. But I'd never want to be accused of regurgitating theme camps... Hmmph. Why not? After all, the idea of a theme camp centered around music that goes *THUMP* *THUMP* *THUMP* *THUMP* into late in the night has been regurgitated two or three hundred times by conservative estimate. Besides, any movie...

... He sings in a really great barbershop quartet ... Hmmmmmm.... If the quartet ends up coming and is interested in new repertoire, let me know. I woke up one morning a couple years ago with the idea that I HAD to write barbershop settings of readings from Mao's Little Red Book (and I don't even t...

... And Flon, while I understand that recording the event--or any part of BM might alter it, I would put it to you that since there have been photograhers from day one, removing them would change things immensely. For the good or the bad? I don't know. What I do know is that altering this, be it al...

An interesting (if somewhat over-long) thread. HM is getting a bit piled on (although he seems perfectly able to take it), so I would like to say that he makes some valid points. One can not logically deny that omnipresent photography does change CT, BM, or any event. One will behave differently if ...

I go to BRC to escape Camp Reality and the ubiquitous idiot box. Now someone wants to bring Trekkies into the BRC experience? Please tell me this is all a bad dream.... I hate being negative on this as it is someone's dream and then there's the overriding rule of "Don't fuck up someone else's exper...

Check this out. You would need a reasonably hefty drum to attach it to. If you are playing this on a stand there might be a problem as most snare stands have a fairly small base area and the weigh of clamp and cymbal might unbalance it.

Re: gettin old and stuff
part of my old bliss was the inundation in an electronic swamp no matter where i went and its cumulative effects over several days was quite euphoric and bizarre So for you BM *IS* a big rave. That's fine - for you. However, for many participants (and from anecdotal, totally unscientific personal s...

Re: Let's face it burners
It's just a "RAVE" :? If it were, I wouldn't be there (been going since '99). It's the art and the community that's the thing. I'll be the first to admit that I just don't "get" the whole electronica, rave, techno (or whatever it's called now) thing. No breath, nothing "human", nothing to engage th...

Re: Mariachis!
I know of a guy in the organization who is working to get a full-blown mariachi band to Burning Man. Stay tuned -- your wish may come true! :) Hell Yes!! I would also like to see more bagpipes, a Javanese gamelon, Swiss Alp horns, a production of Mozart's The Magic Flute done in fetish wear,...
