Prevailing winds on the playa?
We are making a directional specific shade structure and were wondering if there are prevailing winds on the playa. Does the wind follow any kind of consistent pattern or direction, or is it a completely random maelstrom of dust and destruction?

rebar stake length?
I am engineering a large shade structure, and am wondering what would be adequate, insufficient, and overkill rebar stake lengths for securing structures to the playa. I am scrounging up some 1/2 and 3/4 inch rebar scrap, and am testing out a system of 4-15" stakes welded to the corners of a 5" squa...

Tyvek!
We were just discussing tyvek as possible covering. If this sounds like a good thing, try searching for construction sites. They might be wrapping a house with Tyvek and might have scraps that can be sewn together to make a free covering...

There are 6-10 of us and we want to build some sort of compound shade/living/art structure. The size is still TBD but we want to make sure we plan within the regulations so ...

We are just looking for insurance that is just liability...so if somehow it gets in a wreck on the way down/back the other person will be covered and/or if a cop pulled us over there would not be a problem.

Car insurance for large altered vehicles
Hello I am from Jackson Hole, Wyoming. A group of us are trying to renovate a school bus we bought back in high school. Before we put in a lot of effort to transform this bus into a burning man worthly vehicle, we need to know the feasibility of getting insurance for a week and a half so we can driv...
