This is a crappy prototype Reubens' tube. I am building a bigger, better one to take to the playa. My problem is, right now it only works indoors because even a slight breeze blows the flames out. Anybody got any ideas on how to make this...

ok, I just found it, honey weighs 12 lbs +- per gallon so, again, I'm proven wrong.......dang............but, I remember correctly, then, 3 gallons of honey per 15 gallon brew. Yeah, the general rule of thumb is three pounds of honey for a gallon of mead. More for a thicker, sweeter mead; less for ...

Ah... good ol' hippie crack. The best way to get quantity is to make friends with someone who works in a gas supply place. Get them to fill your shiny metal industrial grade can with medical grade. Medical grade usually comes in a big blue can, but that can cause problems in some states if you don't...

Anybody got a good use for old skis/ski equipment?

I live in a ski town, and every spring every ski rental shop in town throws away 50 to 200 pairs of worn out skis, numerous ski poles, and several pairs of boots. None of these would be worthwhile to use for skiing (by the time the rental shops get rid of them they are trashed), but I've seen severa...

Arduino is a cheap, open-source micro controller platform for interactive displays. This is exactly the sort of thing it was designed for.

So I have one... let's say I want to write a program that takes input from a couple hundred switches, and outputs to a couple hundred single-color LEDs. Is there a relatively simple hardware solution for this? Have you figured this one out yet? Arduino might be what you're looking for. As for input...

Just a thought. If the Kernel is traveling time and changing things, it is possible that he could create paradoxes that would disrupt the fabric of reality. This would bring Doom not just to the earth, but the entire universe. With the right changes, he could even Doom the universe retroactively. If...

Impeach Dick!!

Anybody watching C-span? There was a motion brought to the floor in the house of representatives today to impeach Dick Cheney for deliberately deceiving congress and the nation about Iraq's "weapons of mass destruction." It didn't get tabled, so there is hope, but it did get referred to the house ju...

My campmates and I joked about taking airhorns to the temple burn. Had I known about Best's airhorn I probably would have. Ice nine is from a Kurt Vonnegut book. I believe it was Cat's Cradle. Originally invented to keep marines from having to walk in the mud, it destroyed the world in the end.

I don't think the couple camped next to me ever left camp all week. All they did was fuck in a screen tent with the lights on. A few times several of us pulled up chairs to watch.
Wait, they did come out for a beer a couple of times.

I am currently working on a giant Fresnel lens to melt a big chunk of the ice caps. I figure, they're done for anyway, might as well do something fun with the water. Now all I need is some volunteers to work on a giant pipeline to get all that water where we need it. Here's what it's gonna look like...
